That's nice. I had one pretty much like that from 1979 or so. Pre-safety, pre-checkering, microgroove barrel, straight grip, square lever.
It's a nice classic rifle.

When you said first year production, I was thinking 1895.
It looks like a nice rifle for sure. Good caliber too.
Your buttplate has a lot of curve to it, which makes me wonder if it is original. Do you know?
In any event, a nice rifle. Have fun with it.

I wish it was that old and still in good shape.
The stock and curved butt plate are original. I'm not sure about the gold bead front sight but I think it is.
