I want to sell my home and move up north to the boondocks where I can buy 40 acres of woods and hunt til I puke.
The wife is dead so I can buy what I want, not what she wants.
Any advice on Northern Minnesota from anyone?

All I can say is that I wholeheartedly endorse retirement. I'm still walking around here trying to figure out where I am supposed to be and why my phone isn't ringing.

Nice feeling.

Good luck in your endeavor.

No where near International Falls. That pulp mill stench could kill a man. If you are going that far north, why not go west too? More stuff to hunt and away from those liberal idiots in the twin cities.

What do you get in that part of Minnesota, like 9 days of firearm deer hunting?

I figure to mess around till after hunting season, maybe the first of the year or so, then I'll be going back to work in some capacity.

It is a relief though, to know that every day is saturday.

Steelhead,
I think the deer season is sixteen days for rifle, archery is over three months.

I wouldn't like the winters in northern Minnesota - too blasted cold.
There was a saying that folks in Minnesota spent their winters drinking and fu**ing because it was too cold to do anything else!

Spencer516,
I want black bear and deer. I think Northeast might give me both. East of Hinckley is looking good to me this week.

I used to work with a bunch of guys from up there and they all hit the alky pretty hard, year around. Can't verify the other.

You're on the right track thinking about what you want to do. My only suggestion is get a house you like to be in during the winter. I've found retirement is highly under rated. smile

It is going to be the longest year in your life!! 1 & 1/2 years ago my wife and I bought our retirement home in northern Ark. What a wait! But now its only 24 days to go till retirement.
Leaving north Dakota and its dreaded long winters.
Good luck to you.

Driven thru Northern Minnesota a few times. It looks like great deer country. Some pretty good fishing also, from what I hear.
