A buddy came over to shoot on my range yesterday. He brought brought his G7 and a portable gong. I kinda liked the G7 function, but could not warm up to the reticle. I see that they have others to change to, but they all seem rather large and imprecise, but I have not had an opportunity to actually play with any of the others. Anyone happy with a G7 rangefinder? Thinking about buying one for the nephew to use when I am not around to give him his come ups.

Go over to longrangehunting.com and do a search. There is a lot of information on them there.
I've been using one since last year and am very impressed. One of the rifles I use it with is a long range 7 mag. I spent a fair bit of time range testing and refining my data inputs, but now the solutions I get with it are pretty amazing. On numerous occasions last year I ranged rock chucks as far as 1380 yards out and I get spot on corrections. Numerous first shot hits were recorded from 760 to 1156 yards.

You answered my question if you got a range on a chuck at 1380. Heck I could not get a range on a bright orange 10 inch gong at 685 with the G7. I think it will work for what I need it for, but it aint no plrf15.

I looked hard at the Vectronix, but the built in weather station and ballistic software of the G7 convinced me to try it. I am well satisfied.
I had a chance to handle the PLRF15 at our local long range match yesterday. It was a nice unit with a very small beam divergence... a very useful feature when ranging on flat ground. They guy using it was using printed charts, and they may have needed more field shooting to test their accuracy. He did not have a great day.
I used my G7 to range a small target the size of my hand at about 800 yards... another first shot hit.
I have to say this unit is really working well for me.
Next week our season opens for marmots. My goal this year is 3/4 mile or 1320 yards. I'll be using the G7.

Please, correct me if I wrong.

1. Does the PLRF15 give you the current ambient temperature?
2. Does the PLRF15 give you the current barometric pressure?
3. Does the PLRF15 give you up/down angle of the target? Yes it does!
4. Does the PLRF15 give you the opportunity to enter in exact ballistic data, to include G1 or G7, exact bullet BC and velocity, and zero range?
5. Does the PLRF15 hold the ballistic data for 5/five different loads out to 1400 yds?
6. Does the PLRF15 give you exact drop to the .1 MOA to 1400 yds?
7. Does the PLRF15 give you full value wind holds in 5 mph increments to 50 mph for the exact distance you're about to shoot?
8. Does the PLRF15 give not only exact true line of sight distance but corrected distance for an up/down angle?

I see the PLRF15 ranges to 3281 yds. Who needs a LRF to range beyond 1 mile? 2000 yds? 3000 yds? 3281 yds?

I'm extremely happy with my G7. Four different reticles and four different brightness settings.

I get all the data you ask about through blue tooth with my kestral to my trimble which also gives me my wind holds using FFS. Does the G7 do that? Yardage updates are feed to the range computer via cable and update automatically with each range. From what I have seen trying to get a decent range on a 10 inch reflective target with the G7, I stand by my statement it aint no plrf15....also does not command the price of it. The great thing about the vectronix is the ability to get a reading on a small target at extended ranges. I have been able to get ranges on antelope at 1800 yards. Will a G7 do that? Who needs ranges past a mile.....I guess only those of us who shoot past a mile.

It is nice to have everything in one unit if you are not compromising anything. The G7 might be all you need. I like what I am using.

Does the G7 do what? Give wind holds? Yes.

Blue Tooth; Kestrel, Trimble......Lots of money for those items. Cables? More stuff to set up which takes time and more stuff to go wrong. I've not had a problem with the Near and Far feature on the G7 getting a reading on small items. As I understand it, even a basic Terapin runs $1900; $300 more than the G7.

Yes, the G7 can and does get ranges, even on an antelope @ 1800.

I shoot past a mile too. 1786 a few weeks back and 1831 yesterday. Had 1 click left before toping out my NF 5.5-22x50 yesterday @ 71.3 moa.

G7 gets real time wind information including wind direction and gives you your "clicks" and which direction?

Not really sure of the point of your post. I guess you think I am bashing on the G7 which I am not. I already ordered one for my nephew to use. I will use it as well, probably more than him. I see the value, I am in a hurry or just it is more convenient. I do not think that you will ever as accurate ranges on small targets with it as a plrf15. Not sure maybe you feel smart when defending your purchasing decision. While I have not played with the G7 much I have had both in my hands at the same time trying to range targets. Getting accurate ranges with the plfr15 is way easier and more accurate. Maybe my buddy has a junk G7 I dunno. If they are all the same as his I would probably feel that it ranges about like the old swaro units...which BTW are no slouch....just not a plrf15c.

Another thing I like about the G7 is simplicity. I carry mine hunting, even when after PD's, and my marmot hunting involves a lot of hiking.
It worked well for me this weekend ranging marmots out to 1399 yards, with shots taken out to 1393. Ballistic solutions were good.

love my g7..no complaints or problems whatsoever. Simple , self contained , reliable and repeatable. Cool to be able to add more than one rifles data and have firing solutions without having to change or input new data
