No it ain't. Kicks harder, burns more powder, ammo and brass more expensive, doesn't kill any better or farther. So there! And for use on eating animals, the .260 does about as good at reasonable ranges and angles., tho I still have to try it on moose. The .243 worked tho.... as does the .270, .30-06, 12 Ga slug, .30-30, and .375 WM. from experience.

Your right on the money. I think it all depends on what you like and want to use. I reload and don't mind the recoil of some of the magnums. I prefer to stick with non weatherby mags as brass is outrageous. The 375 ruger is still pricey at $50 for 50 but then again I got 150 pieces and can say they prob will last my lifetime. I love .260 rem. I had one and still wish I would have kept it. That's another story. From what I see most folks like the 30-06, 300 win mag and 338 win mag. I'm not saying they are the only guns that kill. I am saying it seems alot of guys hunt with them. About any caliber will work. I prefer a bigger hole for animals that may want to fight back. I think most guides say a 30-06 with heavy premium bullets is about the limit they will allow on brownies. A 300 win mag probably is ideal for big critters such as those according to most guides websites. Personally that is a safety that's built in because I see alot of idiots at Birchwood with 375 and above class rifles that shoot 4-5inch groups and say well its a big bore it isn't as accurate as smaller calibers which is bulls**t because they just can't handle the recoil. Hell I had a 416 ruger for 2 weeks because it was a great trade for me and it had 2rd fired from a box of 20. I took it out and fired 2 and sent it down the road. That sucker was nasty and I couldn't handle it. 375h&h and ruger are all I can handle accurately and comfortably. People kill all the animals up here with a sharp stick and string so about any rifle has more power than a bow. Just saying its the shooter not the caliber. I am not the best rifleman in the world so I like a little bigger hole that helps with doing maximum damage if I don't place the shot perfect. I try to do my best every time for ethical reasons but I also follow Murphy's law. If it can go wrong it will.

Not to slight the .338. It and the '06 are running about neck and neck on moose kills for me.... The rest were just because...
