Was reading an article by J Barsness about some kind of Montana bore coating that fills in imperfections. Can you tell me more about it? It was an article about a Savage Mod 12 in 6.5 Creedmore.

It's not a "Montana" bore coating. It's Dyna Bore Coat, a solution that's essentially microscopic pieces of glass in a quick-drying liquid glue. After a bore is coated with the solution, a few shots melt the particles and press then into small imperfections, especially tool-marks, though it also works on light pitting as well. DBC vastly reduces copper fouling, and even makes cleaning out powder fouling much easier. Some companies are now putting it in muzzleloader bores before they leave the factory.

I have used it on over a dozen rifles and shotguns and (2)muzzleloaders with great success. I would highly recommend it, because it really does work.

I have never had it not greatly improve a problem barrell. I no longer have to worry about copper fouling.

Not JB, but yes, I've used DBC on a number of rifles.

I even use it on premium barrels before break in. It seems to offer more spectacular results on rougher barrels.

I was working with a friends Parker Hale .300 Win Mag. This gun fouled something fierce and the throat was very rough. After a David Tubb Final Finish treatment, I DBC'ed it. It isn't more accurate, but will shoot much longer strings without having to be cleaned.

I like DBC and recently bought another kit.

Furprick,

I've applied DBC to so many of my rifles I've lost count.

I still have an MZ that was fired in CO in 2009 with REAL blackpowder.

It has never been cleaned since, to speak of. It has a bit of crud in it, and I"ve dropped one dry patch in it since, just to see whats going on.

Came out ZERO rust, just some"crud"

If thats not a solid testimony to its ability, I have no clue what else would be.

There is anotehr product that coats the outside of the guns. I gave mine to a buddy's son that put it on an 870SP. The ones that rust so easy and are rough finish so there are places for salt and water to hide and develop easy. It hunted saltwater a fair amount and freshwater ducks a LOT. That was 2-3 years ago. I bought the gun from him last week. No sign of rust either.

Oh yeah, buy what you need, when you need it or store it in the fridge, I lost appx 100 bucks of the stuff by buying it so I had it on hand, never opened it so never worried. Was hard and dry when I needed to.

OTOH I have some of Dougs original forumlas in a bottle in the fridge now for probably close to 7 years I"m guessing.....

The new metallic bottles really help with preserving the product.
