I'm not aware of any Berger bullets called Classic Hunter.

I just got a box of those to try in my .308 as soon as I get the barrel fitted. Hoping for two things: that they shoot well and are not finicky and that they perform as well on game as the hunting VLDs have for me.

This is 5 shots at 100m from my Sako Finnlight in 30-06. No particular care in the handload,168gr bullet 58gr H-4350, Federal match primer, 0.007" off the lands. Figure it would be OK for deer sized game but still wondering how these Bergers work on b-bears ,elk, & moose?

I'm not aware of any Berger bullets called Classic Hunter. From Berger's website: CLASSIC HUNTER BULLET DESIGN For the first time in Bergers history, we have purposefully designed a line of hunting bullets that conform to the restrictive dimensional standards set by SAAMI. These bullets were designed for hunters that shoot factory rifles and load at magazine lengths. The Classic Hunter bullets are made with a shorter Hybrid shape nose that comply with SAAMI standards; providing hunters the highest ballistic performance possible in factory rifles and standard magazine lengths.

Thank, I found that after reading mathman's post. Apparently Berger's press release on the new bullet went into my junk e-mail.
No doubt they'll work just like the Hunting VLD's when they hit game, since they're designed that way. While they'll certainly kill any big game animal in North America with a broadside shot, they would not be my first choice for all-around timber hunting of game larger than deer.
This is also my opinion of the Hunting VLD's, which I've used considerably on big game up to cow elk size. They penetrate bone pretty well, but their overall penetration isn't normally more than 18" or so.
