Well after waiting for 18 months for a Kimber M84L in 35 Whelen I was informed that they will not be making them. I already had the scope, Talley rings and bases, dies, 200 pieces of new brass, 250 225gr Nosler BT bullets, I even have the sling for it! All I needed was the rifle to put it all together. I'm not real happy now!

Buy a 84L in 06 and rebarrel. Toying with the idea of a 84L in 9.3x62 that might be the cats meow!

Really want those 225 NBT's but this is exactly what I was thinking.

Not a bad idea. Then I could go with stainless/walnut which I really like the look of.

Bummer! I was wondering what the deal was with Kimber on this. They must be backlogged too bad right now with their current models. Probably doesn't help they have like a hundred different pistol versions based on the 1911.

I know of a Ruger Hawkeye matte/walnut NIB on the shelf for $469.

I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

Reboring would be less expensive.

That would be so much a better way to roll.

A 6 pound Whelen sounds great to you shoot the frigging thing.

That would be my take as well. An 8 lb whelen is lively enough.

Hmm, my Whelen scoped weighs 7.25 lbs. I have some open sight 9,3x62's that weigh in at 6.5 lbs. None of been a problem.

Oddly enough, the most painful rifle I ever fired was Ruger 77 in 9,3x62. The stock had no pitch, recoil was PAINFUL! Proper stock design is a must.

Reboring would be less expensive. [/quote Is there enough chicken on a 84L I would go up in barrel profile. I'll have to mic my 06 and see what kind of wall thickness would be left after a rebore. A 9.3 on a 84L Classic Select with refinish by Karnis would be purdy.

I doubt you will have enough barrel wall thickness on a Kimber for a rebore. My understanding is you want minimum .15" on a side over bore diameter. What is an 84L, like .550" at the muzzle? Even if it does work out, the balance would be absolutely terrible.

Rebarreling with a heavier contour would work.

Though, the Ruger idea sounds like the best route for a factory 35 Whelen.

A .10" is plenty. This confirmed by Cliff LaBounty who did three rebores for me as well as Ruger who delivered my factory Ruger RS Whelen at .560". Balance can likely be maintained via punching a few holes in the butt. I do like my rifles light too.
