Always looking for the elusive do it all bullet for the swede. This one looks to have it all without breaking the bank and the reviews look good. I know gamekings are a little taboo around here, just wondering if anyone had any history killing stuff with them?

Why would SGKs be taboo ? They are a fine bullet, shoot well and will kill deer sized game very well.

Premium bullets have their place but are not required to put a deer in the freezer.

A friend just took a very nice 7x6 Mulie at 175 yards with a 150 SGK in a 7mm08. One shot DOA. Could have done the same thing with a 6.5x55 and 140 SGK.

Try it with W760.... you'll be pleased.

In my experience GameKings work real well on deer-sized game, as long as the impact velocity isn't more than about 2800 fps. Even at higher velocities they'll work fine on broadside shots.

Guess we shall see if my new swede likes them, still haven't got to shoot enough with the 1-9 twist to see how it will do, although it certainly doesn't
mind Norma 156 factory fodder. Deer will mostly like be as big as they take on since the state of Kentucky doesn't think it's big enough for elk or black bear. Don't have enough barrel to get them over 2800 at the muzzle so don't expect to see anything unusual there either. It'll have to wait a couple of weeks though, poor me I have to go chase grouse in Wisc. For a couple of weeks first! smile

You'll be fine with the 140 SGKs

We shoot a lot of Sierra Game King 140's in the 6.5x55 @ mv a bit less than 2800. They work fine. My brother and nephew prefer them and shoot more of them than I do, as I think they act a bit softer than the rest of the brands. I happen to like the Speer Hot Cor or a NP better. Not many 140 6.5's that don't work in a Swede.

They are my go to first choice for deer in my 264 WM. For moose I use 140 Nosler Partitions, but the GameKings are just fine for deer.

I have shot several deer with them from the 6.5x55 and 6.5-06. Ranges were from 50 yds. to about 225 yds. The bullets performed very well. One shot kills, no bullet to recover. The deer were down within 10 yards (probably less) from where they were hit. Accuracy is quite good. I like 'em.

Go for it they will work great for you in a modern 6.5X55 or a Swede and the deer will go down fast. Be sure to post all about the bullet failure when you find a separated core and jacket in the dead deer smile

Uh huh. I have used both the Sierra and Hornady 140 to good effect. Haven't lost a deer and haven't had to track a deer.

I`m sure this was tongue-in-cheek, but thought I`d toss in a claim by Finn Aagaard.
He once compared a 140gr 6.5 Sierra out of a Swede to a 180gr Cor-Lokt from his 30-06 on wet paper with a 2" section of dry in the front of the pile. the 3 Cor-Lokt tested all lost their cores and to his surprise the 3 GameKings @ 2700 fps all held their cores and out penetrated not only the 180gr 30 Cal. but all of the conventional bullets tested.
His assessment at the end of the artical IRCC was he felt the Swede with the 140gr Sierra was his idea of a perfect deer combo

I've seen exactly three of them shot into 2 very dead elk, in the form of Federal Premium ammo for a 260.

All shed the core, all fragmented substantially, and none exited or seemed to damage off-side edibles.

I'd use them, if they were what I had...

No practical experiance ... yet. I haven't quite finished my Sweed yet (need bases and rings) but a lot of folks from the fire have recommended this bullet. Depending where I hunt, my only choice is non-lead so I'm looking at the 130gr Barnes.

Post pics when you get that big one ;-)

Cheers

Oh, and the reason 2 elk took 3 shots is not the fault of the bullet. It was the shooter, fair and square. If you only boiler room shots, it took two...

I don't see any reason for the owner of that particular 260 to go looking for another big game bullet.

wink

Not my 260 anymore, and not my elk, BTW.

I have just tested some loads for my new Tikka T3 in the .260

Using varget and H 4350.

And for bullets I used...
129g IB's
120g BT's
140g BT's
140g SGK's

The 120g BT's were worst, 1.5" groups
By far the best was the 140g SGK's

Now this years hunt will be combo cow elk and WT deer.
I will carry my sako 75 in 300 WSM most of the time.

When not expecting elk I want to carry the Tikka.
If a cow presented an ideal double lung shot under 200 yards...
250 yards???

What is your opinion???

My dad has used the sierra gameking in his 264 win mag for the past 50 years and they have always put PA deer down fast. Can't get much better firsthand experience than that.

I used them in my 6.5 rem mag at 3000 fps

[Linked Image]

good accuracy

Shot a deer at about 90 yards with a broadside boiler room shot and had a 50 yd tracking job (not necessarily easy in S Texas brush), no exit

Did the bullet do the job? Sure, dead deer

Switched to 130 gr Scirrocco SSII at 3175 fps and always have exits and all have been DRT

Your results may vary
