No good reason required. My most disliked : 308 winchester sick

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

For a quite a long time we had a bunch of hunters from Montana and they all had Rem 700 7mm Mag!!!!!!!!!!

While it was a fine moose and caribou round it seemed to be a bit lacking on grizzly bears.

This is not a dis on 7mags but a mention on my earlier yrs of guiding and the learning curve on shot placement.

Waterrat yes I hear that sort of stuff now and then about the 7 Rem Mag,and usually the problem can be traced back to lousy shooting or tin foil bullets.

The perp's usual recommended solution is a 300 magnum of some sort that he can't shoot very well either. sick

I am no fan of the 308 nor anything based on the case with the sole exception of the 7/08,which I like a lot better than the parent, and is a great little cartridge if you simply must have a short action.

Strangely I am drawn to stuff like the 6XC and the 6.5 Creedmoor but own neither....go figure.

I also can't warm up to short/fats; which to me are like trying to fit 10 gallons of water into a 5 gallon bucket; nor to Ultra Mags, which are a bit too much of a good thing....in wildcats I can't get my head around "AI'd" anything.

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

I've no real deep seated disdain for any, but not really all that interested in the 7 rem mag or any of the weatherby offerings (save the 257).

I have zero love for any of the WSSM cartridges!

But then again I love the 308, 30-06, 7 Mag and Ackley Improved cases; so maybe I am a little off base?

.308 Winchester. I have no good reason for it either. I have owned several and all were good rifles.

A very close 2nd is the .270 Winchester even though I own three of them. Again no good reason really.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style.

.308 Winchester and its derivatives. Never saw the point except for military semiautomatics and automatics. Preexisting cartridges had sporting uses covered.

Can't work up enough emotion to "dislike" a cartridge. There are a lot I have no use for but I don't dislike any of them.

Can't say I dislike any of them, but there are some I have no desire to own.

.25 ACP
.223 WSSM
6.5 Carcano
.308 Marlin Express
.30 TC

I dunno, may be a few others.

The B-29, which turned out to be the biggest piece of over-rated junk ever promoted by a whoring gun writer.

Now you tell me, just after I commissioned Holland & Holland to build me a matched pair.

30-30 35 Rem 45/70 except in a Sharps.
Equally.

There are a few others---but those the most.

The only cartridge I have a real visceral dislike is 270 WIN. I know the reason too. It is from coming of age around a bunch of diehard 30-06 fans. 308 WIN was similarly problematic, but I bought a Savage 99 about 10 years ago in 308. I made the choice, because I was worried that 300 Savage might be on its way to obscurity and I downloaded the 308 WIN to 300 Savage levels and fell in love.

My latest acquisition is a 25-06 REM. Brass for the 25-06 was so expensive, and 270 WIN brass was so cheap that I bought 100 rounds of 270 WIN and resized it to .25. I figure there will never be a 270 WIN rifle on the rack so no problem.

Just looking at the 270 WIN cartridge makes me mad. On the other hand, I have a real love for both 30-06 and 35 Whelen-- especially the Whelen. I have a round of 35 Whelen on the table next to me in the man cave. I find it soothing to pick up and roll around in my hand while I'm watching TV.
