1. It doesn't matter what Mike Bloomberg promises you, or how convincing his lobbyists are, if you thumb your nose at people's rights, they just might put an end to your political career.
2. It doesn't matter how much Mike Bloomberg gives you in campaign contributions, if you thumb your nose at people's rights, they just might put an end to your political career.
3. None of the laws they passed will matter much in the end. They are clearly unconstitutional. In the end, they will be overturned in the courts. The only change is that the people put an end to two Senators' political careers.
Good riddance to both of them!

Hope this becomes something of a reality check for elected officials. One of the outstanding questions here in NY is the future of Gov Cuomo after ramming the SAFE Act through. Here's hoping that it proves to be political suicide for him. This wish is tops on my Christmas list.
Imagine your grave on a windy winter night. You've been dead for 70 years. It's been 50 since a visitor last paused at your tombstone..... Now explain why you're in a pissy mood today.

It is most certainly going to put a chill on any gun control plans coming out of DC.

Certainly hasn't slowed things down in the California legislature, yet another round of draconian gun control measures set to go to the Governor today for his signature.

Good riddance to both of them! Denton, I always appreciate both your reporting on and your take on gun control issues here. I think the thing you're possibly missing though is how much under-the-table money...read that flat-out bribes and payoffs, Blomberg and his ilk probably spread around to get this done. Hopefully some of these narcissistic psychopaths we call our "leaders" are more enamored of the attention and power than they are the money. I doubt it though because they'll no doubt, fall into some other great job anyway. Sorry for the negativity. I hope it's negativity and not realism, anyway.

Calfornia is a great state, with many great people living there...
but the liberal left has turned it into some place that is so totally dysfunctional over the last 40 plus years, they pass new laws continually, for politicians to just be able to justify their existence....
but liberals are usually hippies, or kids of clueless hippies... and how rational can one be, after being stoned half your life and high the other half? those 400+ acid trips also have to affect one's ability to reason...
if you are a welfare bum, or a criminal, or an illegal alien.... it doesn't get any better than California...

Likely some fat Swiss accounts came from all this, so they don't much care about their political careers.

Those two out of work Colorado Senators would have been the pillars of society in CA. The recall would have never happened, just like NY.

California and other magazine limit laws seem to be standing, what's different here? There isn't any difference. The California laws are also clearly unconstitutional. The cases just haven't worked their way through the courts yet. All things essential to a right are as protected as the right. For example, SCOTUS ruled that an exorbitant tax on printer's ink, used to infringe a newspaper's right to publish, was unconstitutional. Ink is essential to freedom of the press. In that context, the right to keep and spread ink is protected. Magazines are essential to the proper operation of firearms, and are as protected as firearms, just as newspaper's ink is protected. States may not ban broad classes of firearms that are commonly held for lawful purposes. States may not ban or overly tax firearms parts or ammunition unless they can meet the substantial burden of showing that there is some overriding, specific, compelling need to do so, i.e., something gawdawful happens if they don't. AR15 bans and magazine bans will wilt under the gaze of SCOTUS.

I was very amused how the news outlets were calling both races early on based upon the party affiliation of the voter, assuming every D was against the recall and every R was for it. Turns out, as most of us actual Colorado constituents know, the issue transcended party lines. It wasn't a red/blue issue, it was a pol-who-catered-to-the-out-of-state-interests-must-go issue. Hell, 20% of Giron's petition signatures were democrat! All politics is local...
