Hi All,

What's this plant? I was thinking chamomile, but the petals don't look quite right. Small, daisy-like flower, but much smaller than a daisy. Was thinking pineapple weed, but that's also not quite right. I'm referencing Peterson's.

Smell when crushed is very good and sweet, but not exactly like pineapple. Bees love it though.

In one of the pics is a blue flower. The blue flower is chicory; I'm showing it for comparison.

Any help?

Thanks,

Josh

P.S. I'm sorry for the crappy pics. They were taken with the camera of my like-new Blackberry 8320. I like these older Blackberries but they have 2mp cameras. J.S.

Hi Plateu Hunter,

I thought an oxeye daisy was bigger?

Thanks,

Josh

Hard for me to ID from those pictures but I'll say Heath Aster. The time of year is right. Your location should be about right.

Thanks guys. Is it good for anything? Teas, etc? Peterson's guide doesn't seem to have it in there.

There are many plants in the aster (daisy) family that have flowers like that. Find a guide local to your area, perhaps at your public library.

We have New York Asters that look just like those but with a little purple tinge to them.

There are lots of asters, but I think this one is a heath aster. It would probably make a mediocre tea but I don't know of any particular uses for it. Makes good bird food and cover I guess.
