What I see is an early field grade gun, likely pre-war, extractors only, double triggers, plain and somewhat damaged wood, bluing well worn. On the plus side the lock up appears (from the top lever angle) to be still tight.

I'm no expert on this model at all so can only give you an impression of what I might pay for it assuming the bores are still bright and un-pitted and there are no barrel dents/gouges etc. To me it would be a 1000 dollar gun. I would never sell it if it were mine but would to continue to use it for it's intended purpose and probably have some quality rust bluing done as well as stock restoration. The same gun with ejectors, fancy wood, possibly single trigger if that floats your boat, some engraving, in fine condition overall would bring a whole lot more.

I'll be interested to hear some feed back from men who really do know this model well.

Go chase some pheasants with it.

Maybe a thousand , just because it is A Early Model 21 . To rough to be worth a lot . Good hunting shotgun , not much as a collectors piece

Lock up is very tight , there is no blueing loss on the top or bottom of the barrels. I have not even seen a terrible condition 21 for under 3K on gunbroker, and that was non-original with a cut down stock and after market recoil pad. Bores are bright and i do not see any damaged wood.

I inheritted it and do not bird hunt, otherwise i would keep it.

Your Model 21 appears to be a very early model, 1930-1933. The buttstocks was considered unnatractive and changed by 1934. I have had the pleasure of owning several 21's, including an early version similar to yours. Condition and the early stock may make it sell at the lower end.

I initially thought there was a chip out of the toe. A closer look and it seems it's a shadow line that I saw. Doesn't change my opinion of what I would pay for it.

From what I see here and see on the market comparing others, I don't think $2000 to $2500 is unfair. It may be low end on 21's,but look at other American or Spanish 16 gauges....

A rust blue and stock refinish job would run at least $1,500 by a pro, cheaper if a DIY endeavor.

In it's current condition, I don't see $2,500. Restored, probably. If it was near mint, it would be worth a nice piece of change.

Condition is everything...

Yea, its about a 1500 dollar shotgun, the year and the condition detract from value. The gauge adds to value. The screws are all out of time so its been disassembled at some point.

Choke markings will probably be on the bottom of the barrels where they mate up with the action. That doesn't really tell you much. There are tools to measure choke, but I don't know if most gunsmiths would have them. Probably just your more dedicated shotgun guys.

you can measure bore size with calipers, or a dime will work in a pinch to tell if you have full choke.

You can tell the inside muzzle diameter with a caliper, but it doesn't tell you the choke-to-bore difference, which is what's important in choke. You need a special gauge to measure that.

A dime will only indicate a full choke in 12 gauge, not 16.

They are modified and full 28"BBl's. Markings were under the forearm.

The offer on the table is probably a good one considering the potential speed of the sale. There are people out there that would pay more for a 21 with the features yours has, but finding them may take a while. I know, I was one of them before I bought my early 12 ga. Sometimes you want a gun because of what it is, not because of the embellishments it has. If you have the time for it, patience pays off. Glad I was patient on mine.
