I'm thinking of dusting off the Matthews after a 4 year hiatus. I talked to the local PD and they me some areas I can bowhunt in, within city limits.

He also told me of a few special city hunts I can get on next year. On of them is behind the PD building and the shot a 150, 2 140's and a tall 8pt with a drop tine. The city draws 10 names out of a hat.

Fargo is doing the in town deer hunt, and has expanded to an in town turkey hunt, bows only but it is kind of a neat program. The people that are chosen to hunt do have to prove they are able to shoot a bow and make the arrow go where it is supposed to go, and the property owners are the ones who put their names in to let the hunters into the areas where the deer or turkey's are a "problem".

I think Duluth has a program going as well.

Yeah, Duluth has a similar program. I may try to get on that one next year as well. My dad lives in a great area of the city to hunt, but I think you have to get drawn to hunt in an area.

I can hunt anywhere here I get permission and I'm 500' away from a neighboring building....unless I have permission to hunt there too.

As soon as I heard that from the PD, I bolted to a neighborhood I know is full of deer. I also happen to have a deer stand in the back yard of one of them in the form of my kids playground. My ex-wife's neighborhood is over run with deer.

and the "stand" is about 30 feet from this deer trail.

Hey,

Any of you guys know anything about reasonable priced($2-3k) moose hunts north of the border? My hunting partner has been talking about it for a few years and I think it's time to start gathering some info. Would much prefer something we could drive too vs having to get on a commercial flight.

Son was playing soccer two weekends ago and was on a breakaway when everyone started cheering. He thought it was for him. Never saw the doe he was 15 feet from and was running like her life depended on it. Goofy.

Jeff, A while back I did a couple of moose hunts on the peninsula in the middle of LOW from the Canadian side on Crown Land. It was a grand time and while the three or four of us never killed a moose, we did have see a few. Tags were a bit odd in that there were a couple of bull tags for the camp and then a bunch of calf (not cow) tags and it was sort of first-come first-served as if it was party hunting. Never mattered since no one pulled a trigger but anyway, the trips were dirt cheap and a good time.

I would still be doing it but the moose population out there crashed. The number of whitetail has gone up dramatically and with it that parasite that whitetails host w/o a problem but which is mortal to moose. So, the hunting came to an end for though there may be one guy still running a camp out there. Deer, bear, and grouse are great out there, but moose are all but extinct.

I bought my 450 marlin(on the fire) expressly to go moose hunting.
soon after, they decided there wouldn't be a moose hunt for awhile. frown

Fluffy, go shoot an elk with it then.

That's what I did with mine.

Far as I can recall, that's the only thing I've shot with my 450 marlin.

Sadly, I don't think we'll be able to hunt them here again. I will shoot a moose someday, but it won't be in MN I feel. frown

Don't be so pessimistic. We were never going to be able to hunt alligators, turkeys, whitetailed deer, elk in Arizona, wolves, bobcats in Iowa and many others, and yet all those and more have come to pass.

A counsin of mine threw his name in the drawing for a once in a lifetime North Dakota moose tag, the very first year he was legally old enough to hunt in North Dakota. He drew a moose tag. It can happen I guess.

On a special MN state elk hunt in NW MN (not far from me) A guy shot a dandy record bull elk. I know the guy that was bugling for the shooter.

I saw pictures, it's really something. 6X7

Guys, please, dont get me going on elk. I have a passion for elk like nothing else in the hunting world. And I ain't a-going this year. cry I am going next year though. Man, I love every part of elk hunting. I have been driving my family nuts playing with my new bugle call I got for my birthday. Now at this point, having owned it for 36 hours, I sound like cross between an injured holstein and squealing brake pads, but I am getting there! grreeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeii unk unk!

I shot a moose in MN in 1987 up by Hallock. It was a 44 inch bull.

Elk hunting is also on my bucket list... That is the birthday hunt I keep bugging Dave about for us and our boys that all have a Bday with in two days of each other. grin Course the ladies should come along and take pictures.

I had a 45-50" bull come out on my shooting lane in 2011 ( I think). If there ever was a time for it....that would have been it! He was big, like a D9 coming through the brush, but not quite as quiet as a D9 would have been.
