Cool. I wish I had pictures of the moose my dad and his buddies got up in Isabella in 82.

Nice bull, Tjay. I've been moose hunting once, BC in 2006. Saw cows and calves, but no bulls. My son shot a mature bull. It weighted a little over 900 pounds, but only had 38" horns.

I do not know the live weight but I got 500 pounds of meat back from the processor. It was the best wild game I have eaten. I would go moose hunting again in a heartbeat it was a lot of fun.

Tjay,

Nice moose!!

I was the one looking for info on a moose hunt. Would you care to share some details of your hunt, like who was your outfitter? What did you like, didn't like?

thanks....Jeff

I hunted with these folks.

www.burntwood.com

Camps was very good, food was as well. Guides were local cree indians and were very good. Equipments first rate. When I was there one moose ran off into the woods after being shot, whole other story, and the guide found it way back off the lake. Called the owner/outfitter who sent a helicopter to retrieve the moose. There was an extra guide the last couple of days and the camp manager ask if he could split my hunting partner and me up so we would have a better chance. This led to two moose taken the first day we hunted alone, my friend in the morning and mine in the afternoon.

The take for the season 10 moose for 14 hunters. This was 2007. I would go back and hunt with them again.

Here is the moose that popped out in my walking trail/shooting lane. It was in 2011.

Couple more.

Looking away

Looking at me. Check out the pine branch hanging from his rack. I'm sure the racket I heard was him rubbing his antlers before he came out of the bush.

He's about 50 yards away but I'm using a tiny pocket sized point and shoot.

we didnt get good pictures, but I will try and find what we did get. The hunt wasnt that great....a friend saw him and came and told us about it and we drove down the road til we saw him and i shot him. But it was a moose and it was a bull and it was in MN. My grandkids may talk about that some time. Maybe as I get older, the story will get better.... confused

...and I was crawling through the underbrush with my knife in my teeth...yeah, that is a good start! grin

It was dark and stormy, and a blizzard was blowing....

We could all add a few lines and help you with that tale.

I envy your moose no matter what the story, but I'm finally going after mine, two years from now. It's a paid commitment so it will happen. It will be hard to wait.

Bow or gun? Where? When? You can't tell part of a story like that!

TZ, it will be out of Bethel AK - a drop camp 4-14 Sept 2015. Hopefully no dark and stormy blizzards like Berettaman's moose hunt smile smile

My hunt will be rifle for sure. Probably a vintage BPCR singleshot. But I'm snooping for just the right vintage Marlin 95. Either way, it would be blackpowder cartridge hunting for me. My buddy will undoubtedly be using his trusty 9.3.

anyway, my story is just starting. But its a big deal to me because with the deposit I just spent, it's really going to happen at last. This is after over 45 yrs as the number one thing on my bucket list.

Meanwhile, in two weeks I am after a Wyoming elk. That I have done before however. Still damn exciting and fun though.

That's what I did with mine.

Far as I can recall, that's the only thing I've shot with my 450 marlin.

I was going to apply for a bear permit this year, but thought about it a few days past the deadline to apply. frown

Ive decided to make mine my primary weapon for deer this year.Ive bought up a bunch of 300-325 gr bullets and have enough stuff to work up a load, but will probably end up just picking a load out of the book and going with it.
I did that last year with the 350 gr and it shot pretty good, although only about 1500 fps,but would still shoot through the trees that the target was stapled to. Tagged out before I could use it,though.
im pretty sure, the 300 gr hollow points, or the 300gr tsx flat nose( huge hollow point),or the 325 gr cast lead swc, or even the 325 ftx bullets, any of them at even 1200 fps will get the job done at the ranges I typically see.
I was thinking about getting some of the 250 gr bullets I see for the 450 bushmaster, but haven't run across any yet.

I too threw away the razor a week ago. I have a presentation for work on monday and I don't really care how scruffy I am when I go into it.

Bummer on the bear tag fluffy, I did that for antelope last year. missed the deadline by a day. and then missed the deadline to purchase a PP by a day later in the year. it's frustrating for sure

Mama is kicking us boys out of the house for the day. So, we're grabbing an armload of shot guns and rim fires and headed for the woods.

Can't think of a better idea. Jack has a football game in about an hour, so that's what we're doing. Had to work for a half day.

There will be lots of weekend work from here on through November now.
