It's a 99F in 300 Sav. From looking at the photos I'm a little puzzled as to why the barrel bluing is not worn like the receiver? I'm not sure if it's been rebarrelled or not. The owner says it was like that we he purchased it 15 years ago. I'm not sure if he has the original sights but I doubt it.

You CARRY it by the receiver, NOT the barrel. You can't buy MUCH for $400 today.

Where's the front sight ramp?? Barrel doesn't look short. Looks like the F barrel with boss. Makes me wonder??
Hard to go wrong for 400 bucks though.

Is it a Westfield, MA barrel address or Chicopee? Should be Chicopee to be correct for the 50's.

Good price. Wear on the receiver is where it should be. The Sav 300 is a great deer round. Go for it!

Where the barrel meets the receiver there is a black and white difference. Goes from silver to blue. Especially evident in the two pics on the left side. You can't just chalk that up to carry wear.
Don't look right or smell right to me. It's been re barreled IMO
Having said all that, if the gun shoots...it's worth certainly $400 if you want a hunter/shooter.

Starting when? Mine sure doesn't. Got a premil F barrel in 243 missing sight ramp. Not cut. Receivers often lose blue at different rates than barrels. Can't tell on this phone how different those are tho.

Agreed. However, I've just never personally seen a silver grey receiver that lost all of it's blue while the barrel retained all of it's original blue. That doesn't seem odd or suspicious to you?

I wouldn't spend $400 on it. You can do much better with patience.

That doesn't seem odd or suspicious to you? Here's my EG which has almost totally gray receiver, but barrel has most of it's blue. I don't think it's as extreme a difference as his, but the gist is there. Not sure it matters tho, at $400 it's just a shooter. If it's been rebarreled it's still just a shooter. For mid-$500's he could probably get a near collector level 99F in 300, but this one would be a perfectly good hunter for the price.

400 sounds like a fair price for that rifle. As was mentioned earlier, hard to go wrong for $400.
