I just got back from s self guided moose hunt I booked through Greg Brownlee with Joe Schuster. My hunting buddy and I had a great time, I got a 64" moose and his is 53". We also saw the rack of a 74" bull one of Greg's clients got on a guided hunt with Joe this season! Here is a picture of my moose.

Thanks guys. It was a self guided hunt in Area 23. I got my moose on the third day of the hunt and my buddy got his on the seventh. I called in both moose using a combination of grunts and scraping trees. I was hunting with a Kimber Montana 325WSM. I shot my bull in the evening during a steady rain about a mile upriver from our camp, we started field dressing him at about 8:30pm and got back to camp at 5:00am the following morning. The rain made skinning him a miserable, but very welcome, chore!

I wore uninsulated Kenetreks and Sourdough Slipper waders. I would not recommend the Sourdough Slippers for this type of hunt though, there was too much water and muck. If I were to do it again I would wear either chest or hip waders.

NICE! A moose is the last animal left on my want list. I guess I need to get serious soon. Old age accelerates, it seems.

I also used a Havalon Piranta knife on this hunt and it was, without a doubt, the best money I spent on gear. I believe I went through eight blades for two moose.

You cant' do a moose with a Piranta. Everyone knows that.
Especially not back in 2007 when I did the same....
large blades have survival/defense capabilities. Beyond that Piranta all the way.

You guys are killing me!
But then, I have 6 months of season left... factor in Arctic conditions and work.....
Heck, it could happen.

But then, I have 6 months of season left... factor in Arctic conditions, work schedules, a wedding in Jamaica, a vacation in Hawaii, a bit of caribou hunting for the freezer .....
Heck, it could still happen.
