Can't think of a better idea. Jack has a football game in about an hour, so that's what we're doing. Had to work for a half day.
There will be lots of weekend work from here on through November now. Dang, Tom! Sorry I couldn't make his game. Ellie got released for light workouts and was with the team for two games against Century College today. She didn't even dress, but I wasn't about to miss her first appearance at a college game. How'd Jack's game go today, and is he feeling better?

He is feeling better. The game went well. They won 33-0. They still haven't been scored on. I think the only first down they've given up was in the game you watched. I'm suffering major withdrawal, I haven't been able to make it to the woods at all. Weekend work sucks!

I didn't get drawn either. I didn't think they used PP's but it says my preference level is 2. I thought it was a straight lottery since it's called the "wolf lottery".

On Saturday the boys and I made a quick trip to camp. The boys walked the trail route north of the cabin with a couple of shot guns while I went south with the tractor and fixed up the camp access trail with the 3 point box blade. I finished that up and we dropped the box blade and mounted the bush hog mower. I mowed the trail loop north of the cabin for the first time this year and we cut many storm damage trees that have gone down over the past couple of years. It's limbed, cut to firewood length but still laying up north of the cabin so next time out we'll have to haul it down to the cabin.
After covering myself in chain saw shavings, ants, bark, dirt etc.. I finished the trail loop which took me past Dusty's deer hunting stand.
Boy I miss that guy.
Coming by that stand with the seasonal task of trail maintenance, usually followed by other seasonal activities that lead up to hunting... Such as mineral and salt blocks being placed where he would want them, strapping his camera to a tree to capture all the critters that visit his hunting spot, trimming of branches etc.
Well it was another reminder, we're moving closer to deer season and it will be our first season without Dusty. It's going to be difficult.
I saw no reason to simply abandon efforts for that stand. Quite the opposite actually. I thought about Missy and Kenna, or who ever may choose to occupy the Dusty stand this fall. No sense in just stopping our annual improvement efforts. Each year I try to do something to improve each hunting spot we have. I thought about the Dusty stand location and how all the traffic (deer) comes from the dark spruce timber to the NW of the stand. I decided to cut a new trail through that dark and sheltered deer route. Offer the deer a clean and quiet route leading out towards Dusty's stand. This will also be a good grouse hunting path.
Something clever here.

Keep it up dave, dont ever give that up. He was a great person and was a lot of fun to be around. So many stories that I heard from him and laughed at everyone. Really like the Ice fishing one at the motel he told!
I did draw a wolf tag this year!!
It is a silly fish that is caught twice with the same bait!

Well I know Uncle Dusty is smiling like heck. He would want us to use that stand. Heck, I use it a lot. It's a good spot with plenty of deer trails going by it. It's also a good spot to get to for a quick hunt and for the most part is out of the cold and wind.

i seen that. i should really get some new updated with the porch and whatever else we updated. its always a work in progress which is the fun part about deer camp. More new stands this year and a couple hundred more acres to hunt. i really hope i can stay here the whole season. i already miss out on most of the youth hunt which i am really bummed about.

Dave, Dusty will always be with you and the family.
Been a bad couple of weeks for folks we knew. Had 3 funerals in that time. Cancer took all of them.
