As far as the woof tag, I deer hunt primarily in west central MN out of the woof zone but a buddy of mine has 400 acres of hunting land south of Baudette and he got drawn too so me thinks we will spend some time chasing Canis Lupus up there.

I planted a food plot for the first time this year. Planted it at the end of August and it is growing like crazy! The last two weeks I have averaged over 350 pics per week on my Truth Cam 35 of deer using the plot. Mostly at night. I've bow hunted over it twice now and have only seen a doe and fawn but the pictures are showing LOTS of small bucks and some with very good potential. I'm really digging this Trail Cam over a food plot thing! I even went out and bought another Truth 35 and set that up yesterday so I have 3 cameras out now. Its a hoot seeing what goes on when your not there!

Dave - I'm sure it will be very different and a little difficult without Dusty at camp but he would like nothing more than to see Kenna and/or Missy sitting in his stand. He would be smiling like heck! smile

I havent gotten my card out of my trail cam in 3 weeks and it is KILLING me! I am just sure it is full of wall hangers! In truth, I will be pleased with one mature buck. I know the turkeys like my food plot.

Good duck hunting weekend. 3 of us got 13; mostly mallards. woodies on the grill are really good eating!

ON the trail cam thing last Friday night, the first scrape appeared on the back of my property. Seems mighty early but it was an obvious, well-worked scrape so I hung a camera on it. I'll have to check some of the other places and see what else is going on out there, but the game is at least in the warm-up stages right now.

scrapes this early are typically made by mature bucks, so that is encouraging.

Spent half the morning trying to find generators for our camp lanterns. Of the 2 types I needed, I could only find 1. Ended up ordering direct from Coleman.

what mix did you go with Jim?

checked a camera today, swapped cards. came home to find 1500 pics, about 12 had deer on them, apparently one small tree branch likes to move a lot in the very corner of the camera's range. lol oh well. some pics of decent bucks, I'll try to get out on opener this weekend if I can

A branch by itself shouldn't cause a problem because it should be at ambient temperature. But if it is shading and the exposing a bright sunspot as it moves, that might cause a problem. I have found that when I can find a way to point my cameras in a generally Northerly direction, I can reduce false positives by 75% or more. East and West are the worst directions and South is a little better but not as good as north.

Wild asparagus, growing on the new property, pretty happy to find it.

I like my seasonal treats from nature, I wont have the high bush cranberries anymore like I had on the old place but the asparagus is a nice trade.

Any ideas on what I can do to make it do better in the spring? Cut it off at the ground, pluck the old dead stalks?

it was pointed straight north and it was 12' off the ground pointing across a small gully at a water tank that was 25 yards away.

Then it sounds like there isn't much you could do. Was it getting reflection off the water? That would probably have been pretty obvious, if it was the case.

I doubt it's the water, the branch on the bottom looks suspect IMO wink

it's a wild game innovations one I got at cabela's 2 years ago.

takes great pics, but I have noticed it's sensitive to movement (who woulda thought? smile )

same camera got me 1500 pics of blowing grass last year when I mounted it to a rock. it happens, infact I KNOW it is likely happening right now. next time I check it, I'll cut the branch.

Well, I don't have the branch problems that you do, but in this instance, I'd wager it was the deer smile
