Take camel riding lessons? Be careful and come back.

my wife grew up there. They would go camping in the desert quite often. Her dad was a rock hound during his off hours and they would find gems and something he called desert diamonds.

Go SCUBA diving in the Red Sea. Be careful in the water because those sneaky sea snakes are poisonous as a mo-foe.

Due to the lack of firewood, isn't that what campers call camel chips?

Dotting the deserts in the Arabian Peninsula are stones which glitter like diamonds. These stones, referred to as "desert diamonds," have become popular for costume jewelry, as they have a similar appearance to real diamonds. Often referred to as Saudi or Al Quysumah diamonds, they compete with cubic zirconia as a natural diamond substitute.

If ya want to get away go to Bahrain...the Muhtawa or religious police are complete axxholes. The local and federal police are better.
The phillipinos are the big importers of alcohol but seriously do not get caught with it.
There are dens of ill repute but you will need an invite by a local before your aware of them. When we were on patrol the shop keepers made offers to us frequently.
Get used to drinking tea.
There is hunting there but we didn't get to see much.
Good luck and come back soon.

some recommendations from the less heathen type are very welcome.
I didnt read the whole thread so I dont know if this has been suggested, but get a small aluminum baseball bat and spend you free time hunting camel spiders. It'll give you a chance to hunt something, and maybe help overcome your phobia...... or not....... Oh, and just take those fond memories of Bob's loving head on your shoulder, it will help get you through the dark times..... Be careful Bud...

Good luck and stay safe Tovarich. I've never been and don't want to go so all I can say is what has been told me by people, chiefly oil related, that have been.
Stay and socialize as much as you can in the American compounds or other western areas. Be extremely careful what you do with your left hand. Never critize The House of Saud. Do not even attempt to socialize with local women best to avoid them completely if possible. Avoid all religious discussion. Always keep in mind it is their country not yours thank God. Cary your own toilet paper at all times when out in public or having to use their facilities. Arabic coffee ain't for schit. Makes good pain stripper. Enjoy the money. Get out to Bahrain or Dubai when you can. Much less uptight places.
Come back safe and sound.

I plan on being on my best behavior over there. Digging the scuba diving idea, would love to find some place to go shoot trap and skeet. I guess where I will be has a nice golf course, but I have never played a round of golf in my life. I will be in Hofuf for those that have a clue about the area, please fill me in.
Back in the heartland, Thank God!
