I know this has been talked about before, but with the 1885 what is the proper ring to to fit the browning name brand bases? Leopold just seems wrong? Thanks Chris

I would suggest picking up a talley one piece mount and their rings. Have been making them for the 1885 for about a year now. Much better price through talley than through winchester.

Talley is sleek, strong & proper.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.

Does tally supply models for all the various 1885 barrel contours or just the modern cf calibers with the tapered octagonal barrel?
I have a std weight round barrel 45/70. The traditional sporter I believe it is called. I now use a front globe with insert and rear peep site. Would be nice to try a scope just to see what it can do. It is drilled and tapped for a mount, but never found anything that would fit. A sleek base with QD ring be too cool.
This hobby can be frustrating when I try to deviate in any way from common convention. My No1 45-70 wont hit a barn. The 1885 seems like it really wants to shoot, but I cannot mount any optics. It will still out shoot the No1 all day long.

Does tally supply models for all the various 1885 barrel contours or just the modern cf calibers with the tapered octagonal barrel? Call & ask. They are very customer oriented. Gary Turner is easy to get along with. It's best to call them early morning. He will respond timely to e-mail inquiries as well. My last purchase was an XP 100 base. He told me it was one piece. I said I HATE one piece bases. He said he'd cut it for me, polish it and send to the bluers at no extra charge. THe first one was lost in the mix at some point so he made another and finally shipped it to me. I couldn't be more happy. The conventional 1885 base is really cool and very nice.
