George is on his way to the Evinrude dealer to buy a new ETEC as I write this. Expensive trip for him.
It'll be real expensive now. They're not much different. He's from WI he should have a Merc. or a Yamaha if he never wants to buy another motor.

Be home for a week than the wife and I are going to head West. Going to see her brother in Utah and than on to Oregon to see our son and his family. Geez, Bill perfect timing! You should grab yourself an OTC spike elk or "any bull" tag and hit the hills why you are here. Take home some tasty elk venison.

I agree 100%. I think I'm at 7 deer with the same box of shells. That box will go with me this year as well. 'course it's been a long time since I missed a deer until the first year I hunted with Dave. First year I was at chickenbuck. If you want that bullet back, I think I remember which tree it's in.

Sure! That was really a good shot. That tree isn't that big. I missed one on the range camp in 02. Shot at a 6pt chasing a doe and hit a BIG black spruce. It he thought it was funny to point it out to me...It didn't bother me a bit because I shot a beauty of an 8 there later the next morning.

If I had the time I'd do it. I'll have to rely on my buddy Rick to provide the Elk meat. He's leaving for CO on the 8th.

Dave, you mentioned being a one shot guy. Most of deer season I hunt with either a Handi rifle in 45/70 or with a combo gun(12Gauge over .308). I seem never to get follow up shots.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.
45/70,it's almost a religion.
If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

I've been looking for a range finder and I posted this in the bowhunting thread but thought I would share it with my friends here also. Cabela's has a heck of a deal going on right now that I took advantage of since I was at one today. "Welp, I pulled the trigger. Since I was was working in a town with a Cabelas, I searched their website last night in my hotel room. They had a combo pack on sale. By combo pack, I mean Bushnell 1000 ARC Rangefinder, 10x42 binos and a field processing kit that includes a skinning knife, a gutting knife with gut hook and a bone saw for $249! The binos are ok. (nothing close to Nikon) The knives seem very sharp and come in a pretty cool belt attached pouch that carries them all. BUT this rangefinder seems like the sh*t! It has standard mode. Bow ARC and Rifle Arc modes. What really makes my socks go up and down is that it has the ballistic technology built in with the Rifle ARC. By that I mean, you look at a ballistics chart for the caliber you're shooting, make and grain of bullet and set the rangefinder from a pre-programmed list. Once this is done, it will calculate degrees of angle and tell you how high to hold on a game animal. I do plan on doing another antelope hunt and hopefully elk someday so I decided I would get one that does it all. I'm tickled pink and hope I get to use that skinner on a MN wolf this year, since I got drawn for a tag! WOOO" You guys are a bunch of rifle nuts so I thought this would interest you!

Your tribal name for her is flawed, she's eaten my chili. I was going to lay a bet out there for the kids that if they beat me with my own rifle, they can have the rifle. But I have a feeling that splashy would take my nylon 66 away from me if I put that deal out there. I guess I'll have to purchase something a little more expendable, like a 10/22. Then I can put the bet out there.

sorry guys, I had to go down to the mothership yesterday so I was out. I have thought about the youth model 870, but they pack a pretty good punch too for a small framed 10 year old girl. I remember my brother who was a big 12 yr old boy getting beat up a bit with one. It is the old conundrum of light gun vs big kick to a little person.
I like the muzzleloader idea cuz you never know, there could be other uses for said muzzleloader, eh?
I saw a picture of deadwood, SD this morning....full blown 100% blizzard with about a foot of snow so far. I hope Ryan is tucked in somewhere warm and cozy!

I saw something on facebook today that really cracked me up. I will describe the picture:
Picture a very large racked whitetail buck looking at the camera with only his head and rack in the picture. You have seen a million pics like this.
The caption says: Ahem, ladies? My eyes are down here.
