The say its venom will liquefy flesh. I can see why 41 people have died especially if they are as nasty tempered as a normal sized yellow jacket!

Is this a new species that just developed overnight? I wonder why we haven't heard of them before now.

If they deliver them, I'll like to send some to 1600 Pennsylvania in DC.

They seem pretty friendly to me.

The Asian Honeybee has adapted a defense to counter invasions by these hornets. When a scout hornet finds a bees hive, they mob it and all start beating their wings. This causes the temperature of the ball of insects to rise, and they effectively "cook" the intruder. The bees have a higher tolerance to heat than the hornets.
It comes at a cost to the hive, but better than losing the whole colony. European honeybees have not adapted this defence, so are pilaged by the hornets.

I heard that Hornets have been exterminated from The Washington DC area. Maybe they should be declared to be an endangered species. So we could "re-introduce" some of these there. And give them "protected" status. Then see how they feel about Wolves in Idaho!
