No on unit 5. Leaving WV on the 1700 mile trip to gunnison friday. We always arrive 2 weeks early just for the chance to talk to the remaining second season hunters and enjoy the camp time. was wondering if the NFS gates were locked on the forest service roads in Colorado.

Hunt hard and you will find elk there. Buddy was hunting unit 54 in archery and found them at 11,000-12,000 feet. I could only guess that they've moved to lower elevations, but can't confirm.

Good luck!

I've a friend who's hunting 54 in the second season and he's promised to give some intel. However, he's hunting in/near Antelope Creek so a bit east of where you're going to be.

As far as the gates being open, I was reading that, yes they are open and not going to be closed.

Yes. I'll be hunting unit 54 during the 3rd season. I've hunted Beaver Creek several times. But not any longer. Are you with the group of guys that every year grab that old relic cabin at the bottom of April Gulch?

We always camp on top at Sun Park. Talked to those guys last year and the forest service has closed all of those cabins down. All posted with no trespassing signs. Same with the two across the ridge in sun creek. Good luck to you. Hope the weather cooperates better than last year!
