Several versions will be offered ranging from 200 hp to 275 hp with a maximum of 560 lb-ft of torque.

The ISV5.0 features a compacted graphite iron block, aluminum alloy heads, composite valve covers and dual overhead cams for reduced weight and smooth operation, according to Cummins, along with a variable geometry turbocharger, high-flow fuel filter and extensive exhaust treatment system that includes exhaust gas recirculation and diesel particulate filter. The company says it will improve fuel economy between 20 to 40 percent compared to gasoline engines, depending on its application.

Cool, no doubt. I just wonder what the real point is, though. It's really more power than you need for towing with a 1/2 ton. As for economy, a 20% improvement over a gasser barely covers the price differential for fuel (diesel is routinely 15%-20% higher than gas these days).

Would have been nice to have a "compact" truck with enough power to pull the average boat while getting 30-35 mpg, rather than an overpowered 1/2 ton that gets probably 25-26mpg and costs likely $6k-$10k more than a gasser that would get 21-23mpg. I'm thinking a smaller diesel that puts out 300-350 ft. lbs torque, here.

OTOH, if the Titan has a 3/4 ton rating and gets 25mpg+, I'll change my tune.....

I agree I would rather see a smaller diesel in a frontier or a Tacoma sized truck. I just think any increase in the offerings of diesels is a good thing.

If they'd offer it with a manual transmission that's matched to that perky diesel in a "half-ton", 4-door truck (that was otherwise able to handle the added torque) I'd be pre-ordering.

I loved my Land Rover Defender 110. It had a 2.2ltr turbo-diesel with a 5-speed and it was awesome. OK, it was a little under-powered, but a manual transmission makes a *huge* difference in off-road ability as well as for pulling stuff.

I'd like to see a 2.5-3.0L four cylinder version in the smaller trucks and passenger cars too. This v-8 5.0 in smaller (class A ) motorhomes and parcel van sized stuff could be good though. Wait and see.

Nissan needs to put larger wheel wells on their trucks so you can run some real tires.

Seems to answer a question no one's asking.
Not enough chasis for a 3/4 ton, and as a 3/4 ton it would be under powered compared to the big 3 offerings.
As a 1/2 ton, not enough mileage to ever cover the hefty upcharge, plus maintenance, plus higher fuel cost.
Seems kind of a tweener.

Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99% vote.

last year Nissan claimed they were phasing out the Titan due to poor sales. I guess they changed their mind.
