Got news earlier this evening...a dear family friend and disabled Army Veteran, lost her dad this morning at 6.50 AM.
Was riding his motorcycle to work this morning, and the EMTs were called, as it left the road and hit a tree... there was not much damage to the bike, nor to his body...
Norm was 63.. and a Vietnam Vet, He was pronounced dead when the EMTs reached the scene... they figured he must have suffered a stroke or heart attack....
I don't know what the hell is with 2013, but I must admit, I have known more people who have lost their lives this year, than any year over the last 25 to 30 years...
from John Noveske in January.. to Norm Shirley...and our own forum member Ken Maples... another Vietnam Vet and a great guy... also only 63....too a family member.... ALL to young to have life over...
several more I have known, fellow Scout leaders, both too young... one a doctor, and only 50 years old...
may each one of them RIP... Good bye Norm, and a salute of respect for a fellow veteran proud of his service...
sure hope there are no more this year... and sure hope 2014 is a lot less dramatic...this stuff really can take the wind out of your sails...

Thank you Gentlemen...
Ya don't want to put it like this to the immediate family...
but Norm loved to ride his motorcycle...and on a crisp fall New England morning, with the leafs changing color...
its sad for a family to lose a love one...
on the other end, I think it is a blessing from God to go quickly and go doing something you love to be doing...
so RIP Norm, and enjoy the rest of your morning motorcycle ride..
I will pass on the well wishes and prayers to Norm's family...

Seafire: I also have felt the loss of several friends this year - many of whom were on my list of brother workers from my profession.

At least it must have been quick - and he was doing something he loved at the time, riding the bike.. I hope I'm that lucky.

Sorry for your loss.
I had a co-worker do the same 4 years ago, most commented he went out doing what he loved, which seems somewhat a consoling statement.
All the more reasons adding up to early retirement. We just got 3 of our work Holidays from next year moved to next week so if the gov shutdown continues we won't have to take vacation , or, leave without pay. Come Oct 21st, it will be LWOP.

Thanks Joel.... but I think Norm would have liked to be remembered as an old Hippie.. a lifestyle he embraced when returning from Vietnam back in 72.... here's Norm doing what he loved best.. deep sea fishing out of Gloucester Mass... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/Norm.jpg) he caught this one while taking out his grandson this past summer....his life ended too short, but he lived a good life, and was always ready to smile and say a kind word, especially when everyone else was busy stressing out...
