Has any one used Rl- 15 , RL-17 in the 9.3? I have a 9.3 x66 and trying to get a feel for what these powders can do.

I've used RL-15 and Ramshot Big Game a lot in the 9.3x62, and Big Game is similar to RL-17 in burning rate. RL-15 is a fine all-around powder for the 9.3x62 with any bullet weight, and Big Game works extremely well with bullets above 250 grains. (It also works with 250's, but doesn't provide any advantage over faster powders like RL-15, Varget, etc.)

What kind of velocity are you getting with 'Big Game' powder with the 250gr/286gr bullets? I've been using VV-550 to reproduce factory loads 73 and 71 grs respectively.

I use RL15 in my 9.3x62, 375 H&H, 308 win, 22-250....Etc, etc..Excellent accuracy and velocities.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

What kind of velocity are you getting with 'Big Game' powder with the 250gr/286gr bullets? I went North of Nome 5+ years back for grizzly and used 65.8 gr w/ the 286 PT for 2500 fps out of my CZ550. From my 24" Pacnor barreled M70 I get 2559 fps with 66 gr. Alan

Just let me know if you ever want to get rid of that green stocked bastid.... LOL. You'll be the first to have a crack at it. With that said, don't hold your breath. It went elk hunting the past few weekends here in Utah. To check it's sights just before the elk hunt I was dialing up the MOA elev turret to 500 and it's spot on. For your enjoyment. http://riflestockpainting.com/images/AG9362.jpgAlan

Alan, you know I have that rifle inplanted into my memory banks. I didn't need to see a picture of it ...Now, I have a 9.3x62mm but it is for damn sure not as nice as yours: It knocks the hell out of elk though ...: I'd also trust mine at 500 yards

Every time a 9.3 thread pops up, I think I gotta have one. Then I look at at my 22" M77 SS 35 whelen and remember how handy it is. I only get 2485 with 250 Partitions and 1" groups...... BTW: Nice groups and a nice 'federal beef'.

Me too! Then I remember that I am not likely to encounter anything that a 180-200 NP won't handle out of a ..30-06. Then as my pusher always asks, "What does need have to do with anything?" Jack

I'm getting about 2350 with Big Game with the 320 Woodleigh in the 23.6" barrel of my CZ, so quite similar results given the difference in barrel lengths.
It's good to have so many new powders that work so well in the old round!

jt402,
Yeah, a .30-06 with 180-200 grain bullets will kill most big game animals quite handily.
But on a trip to Tanzania two years ago my hunting partner used a .300 Winchester Magnum as his "light" rifle, while I used my 9.3x62. We shot basically the same array of animals, and when he got home he bought a CZ 9.3x62.
