Thanks

Wife and I both like antelope meat. We think the only better wild game is moose but we do like it all.

Number 2 loper was a fawn someone had shot the front leg off and let get away. Did not get any pictures of that one. Knew something was wrong when it stood about 220 yards away just looking at us. Then it limped a couple of steps at stood broadside.

Have to make a trip to the range also to get the deer guns ready. We have put the long range ones away although I do have to bloody the 257 Weatherby.

You've got lots of company. Several years ago I was setting up on the range. Reached into my range bag for my shells only to discover that I left them at home. Very short sight in cession that day.

The boys at Hill AFB here in Ogden have sure been burning up the jet fuel today.

I hear that Rapid City picked up 6" 0f fresh snow.

I really like certain calibers of the NEF Handi rifles. The 45/70 and 30-30 seem to be the best of them accuracy wise. Two years ago I went thru three Ruger auto carbines, one Ruger lever carbine, two NEF Handi rifles, one was a trapper,a Rossi single like a Handi rifle and a Ruger 77/44. I NEVER could get any .44 magnum rifle to shoot decent accuracy at 100 yards. My Ruger Super Redhawk will shoot a bowling pin every time at 100 yards.I just never could get any .44 msgnum rifle to shoot like I wanted it to. I wish you better luck.
Now my 45/70 Handi rifle is a dream and will drop a deer on the spot.
I like single shot rifles.Right now I have a Rossi single shot in .308 which I have been considering selling if anyone is interested.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70,it's almost a religion.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

What do you consider "decent" accuracy? I didn't do anything to the Talo Trapper other than float the forend with a neoprene washer and a little sanding, and it is going a little under 2" at 100 with no load workup at all, just shooting my Super Blackhawk ammo. I am hoping the leverlution bullets tighten it up a little.

Were you shooting cast? I only shoot jacketed, and I've heard that they shoot less finicky with jacketed bullets.

Stan, have you looked at E. Arthur Brown single shot rifles? They are a local gun manufacturer and I have heard nothing both positive things about them. They have a website (eabco.com). Look for their Model 97D rifles. They can make it in 44 mag. Give them a call as they are supposed to really be shooters.

Berettaman, yes I have looked at EAB rifles. Fine good looking pieces they are.
goalie,I shot both jacketed and cast bullets. 2" would be acceptable to me and I am proud that you can achieve such good accuracy with the trapper. Hang on to it. You got a good one.

Early antlerless starts tomorrow. JustOneGunner and I will be heading south at about 4 a.m. for an assault on the baldies down southeast. Haven't scouted, so we're going blind. Any day in the woods beats any day at work!

You're not the only one that feels better! I once found a new spot on public land that the DNR planted a corn field plot on for the pheasants and deer. It was surrounded by red brush and willow. It looked prime and no sign of man in there. I hurried home, de-scented, threw on the camo and grabbed my bow and drove back over there. I got ready to go for a stalk with my face in the wind and realized my quiver and arrows were at home in the garage. Wa Wa Wa Waaaaaaaah

Yeah, I am happy with it. After figuring out the forend thing with the youth model .223 I bought, and seeing how seating depth made the difference between 4-5" 100 yard groups and 1-2" 100 yard groups, I figured I would try the .44 mag. I am not into casting or shooting hard-cast, so I figured why not?

I had read that the "overbore"/accuracy issues were older ones, and usually related to shooting cast bullets, so when I saw the Talo I jumped. Sounds like I landed "lucky."

Finances dictate those lovely one day "power trips" so we'll be back home tomorrow night some time around 8-9 p.m. Hopefully with a roof rack full of slickies.
