I must say it has to be one of my favorite calibers I've owned. It has the ballistics of a 270 win in the rifles I've shot and less recoil. The 270 win that I've had I could push a 130 gr at 3000+ and the 7mm08 I have now I'm pushing a 140 accubond at 2900 in a 20" bbl. How can you go wrong? I was going to buy a 264 WM but my style of hunting I don't see the need for a 264. I own a 338 wm pushing 210 ttsx @ 3040 fps and my 7-08 @ 2900 fps I think I got everything covered. Plus my 9 year old son shoots it as well as my wife.

I agree! My 7-08 is very pleasant to shoot and very accurate with 140 Nosler BT's. can't wait for opening day!

The 7mm-08 & the 284 Win are both great.

Rapidly is becoming my favorite cartridge for deer/bear hunting here in the Northeast.

Good variety of bullets for my needs, low recoil, a no fuss cartridge to load for IMO.

The 7mm-08 works without a lot of recoil,my 14 year old daughter hunts with it now,and I use it more every year.

My favorite chambering. It will do everything I will ask it to do.

I'm pushing the 140 accubond out of my 270 at 3140 22 " barrel with a coefficient of right at .500 instead of the 7 mm 140 accubond that is .485. The recoil is basically identical to that of a 7/08. I love the 7/08 but for now I can't see a reason to change.

I'm without one right now, but I could very easily do all my rifle hunting with a 7/08.

Some days I just want to carry a short, light, handy little rifle that just feels good in my hands, plus shoots a round that is fully capable for the hunting I do.

That would be my model 7 S/S in 7-08. I'm a fool for an easy to carry weapon.

I was thinking the same thing and what to know what the load might be. I have two 7mm-08's, my favorite cartridge, right now. They have 20" and 21" tubes respectively and just do not see 2900 out of either. I have a 284 win, and can see 2900 out of that with 140's and the 22" tube.

I have to know what this load is.....I have recently acquired a Sako 75 Finnlight 7mm-08 with 20-1/4" barrel...

I once had a 7mm-08AI that would push a 140 to 3000 in a 22" barrel and I can't see the 7-08 doing 2900 in 20"

I'm at 2800, 22" barrel, with 140 AB's in my 7-08.

That's more like it. With what I consider "maximum" loads with 140 grainers, if I get into the 2800's from my 22" barrel, I am happy. In my rifle (Cooper M54) I would have to be pretty hot to get 2900 fps. Just me.......

Easily get 2,900 with 140's in my 22" with big game with book data. What powders are you gents using to not get near these speeds?

The 7mm-08 is a neat cartridge, as are most offerings on the NATO case. It is a fine choice for deer-sized stuff at any reasonable range, which is proven year after year. Youth loads are now available from the factory, which is a bonus concerning flexibility.

I'm anxious for my daughter to shoot something with the new load I just worked up for her 20" 700. 120gr Ballistic Tips over 22gr of Blue Dot is printing about an inch and a half high at 100yds and and inch or two low at 200yds. No ideas on speeds, but it's flat enough for what we're doing and the gun barely moves when you shoot it. I shoot 145 Speers in my 660 parts gun and my father shoots 110TTSXs in his M7SS. Lots of options out there....

I have owned two with 22" barrels and was hitting 2800 or so with 140's and Varget -or- R15. You've got to lean on a 7-08 pretty hard to get 2900 out of a 22" barrel, let alone a 20" barrel...

Well there is the problem, you are using varget and rl-15. Getcha some big game or rl-17 and work up slowly. I suspect you will get past 2800, not that the deer care though....
