That looks awesome Tom.
I couldn't believe how many deer I saw up at the cabin. The Perham area is known to have some large-racked deer, but I usually see tons of does and a few medium-ish bucks. I saw a 7x7 on our back lot that has me considering some serious bow-hunting time in the near future.

Yeah, it makes me wish we had more than 6 acres behind the cabin. It is actually set up nicely to bow-hunt, but would only really work with 2 people max for rifle. Muzzle loading is back on the table. I may try to get up and hunt my own land a little instead of only rifle at my friend's place.

Tom, what foreign land was this you were camping in? I know it can't be up by Duluth, as I can see clearly at least 10 feet in any given direction!
Is this that clear cut I hunted, or maybe the one further down the road from where we hunted a couple years ago? It's at the end of the logging road that leads to the "beaver pond" stand. Yes, it's a large clear cut, about 3 sections deep in various stages of cut. It's about a mile from where I normally hunt. I don't think you've been down there. My "walk in only" has been compromised by a knuckle head. There was wheeler tracks around the boulders and sign placed in the trail. I'm sure I'll get the blame since I was camped there and had the wheeler with me. Pizzes me off. That was the big attraction for me to that spot. I'm still 100% positive nobody will find my blind or stand sites because it's a bitch of a walk. Like, I really don't want to get in there type of walk, but I know there are deer in there, even if there are only a few on cam there. It's a classic funnel and once the shooting starts, I have no doubt the deer will be in there.
Camp is where you make it.

Daughter says we had snow flurries today back in WI. We pulled into Butte, MT for the night. Snow in the mountains around Butte. Think we're going to drop down into into WY and SD tomorrow. Motel rooms are easier to come by in SD. Rooms in Eastern MT and Western ND are hard to come by due to the oil strike.

Bill what part of SD will you be swinging through? my guess is way north of me unfortunately. went out bow hunting tonight, saw lots and drew 3 times on different bucks, the one I want didn't show, so I'll be going back tomorrow to try again. it does make it nice to see critters every time I go out. Dave, I think you should dust off the old bow and arrow and come out.... you and Tom can share gas I even know a place you are welcome to stay!

Spent some time in your guys neck of the woods last week. Went to NoDak ducking with 3 other chaps for 5 days due east of Fergus Falls about 100 miles. Took 94 all the way up through Minnysoda. Made the obligatory stop in Rogers at Cabelas for more unnecessary hunting accoutrements. Hit Moorhead and started to remind me of my mom's little hometown a ways northeast of there. Got a ton of kin up there.
Shot 120 ducks and 16 geese between 4 of us. Had to eat A LOT of duck to stay within possession limits. Duck fajitas, duck gumbo, bacon wrapped duck, blackened duck, BBQ duck, duck chili...And while it was good, I can't eat anymore for a while. I also had some German chicken noodle soup with dumplings in it. I think they call it nepthla? Anyway, I had two bowls for lunch 3 days in a row at the cafe...it's that good.
Gonna hit it again on big water on the other side of my state this week with my son. Sort of a father/son duck camp. Special for him cause he has no school for a few days. I think the Minnysoda folks do to. Got him a 20 gauge Mossberg 500 that I cut the stock down with sort of a poly choke. I'll shoot backup with the SBEII. Looking forward to spending time together and eating duck fajitas, duck gumbo...

Ya drove right by me! Sounds like you had a good duck swatting fest! I'm not sure I like duck enough to eat it that much. . Is "blackened duck" the stiff that was left on the grill too long during the baseball game?

We're going across MN on I90, Tom. We're in Murdo, SD tonight. There are 2 boxes of rags in the motel lobby with a sign "Hunters, these rags are for cleaning your guns and birds".

Actually some cajun spices on the breast then flash fried on a smoking hot cast iron fry pan for 30 seconds each side. Quite tasty. After 5 days of the stuff, duck farts kinda clear the room.

I don't know what's gotten into me today. On the way into the office the new young guy was talking to a lady friend here at work. He looked at me funny so I snorted at him. He looked like he wanted to go so I chased his ass all over the office til he ran outside crying like a punk. My lady friend thought it was weird that I came back and started sniffing her.
