Lost access to reloading equipment when my old buddy hung it up. Still have about 100 rounds of 06 to go through.

Raked leaves for the second time today and mowed the lawn for the last time.

Trick Or Treating just started and goes to 7:00 tonight. Have to run and hand out candy.

Thanks for all the generous offers guys. I'll be in touch soon. I posted on this early, but what pushed me down this path finally, was the fact that Remington discontinued their 180 gr. Round Nose loading for my 300 Savage. Of all the factory loads I tried, that one always shot the best. Now, I see 300 Savage ammo is in the $34.00 to $40.00 per box range. Time to roll my own. When the stuff starts getting as expensive as Weatherby ammo, it's time to make a change.

ALL ammo is getting almost prohibitively expensive and hard to get. A further reason to start reloading.
The only lead smelter in this country just shut down according to what I have heard. Where does that leave us?

Dave,Reeds didnt have that sig in blue/walnut,but they did have "most other flavors", the one he showed me had a tag of $759.

I picked up a Ruger American in 22-250 for my son for $320.mounted a scope and shot a few times to get it close before I handed it over

I'm starting to really like what I seem from those ruger Americans!
Do they make em in a lefty version?

I picked up a tc impact muzzle loader ot fleet on Friday. The had a good price on just the rifle. I have all or most of the other gear a guy needs for them. I don't know if I'll be able to go during black powder season or not, but at least now I can.

The black powder deer season in South Carolina is sandwiched in between archery and rifle season. Archery first for 30 days, black powder for 15 days and then gun season. Is it the same there, Tom? I know some states put archery and muzzle loader after rifle season.

Muzzle-loading is after rifle here. Bow starts early and runs through the end of the year

Hi Stan.

Did anybody post your deer pictures yet?

Stan, our archery season opens mid Sept and stays open until nearly the end of Dec. It remains open through rifle and black powder seasons. Rifle comes first, typically the second Saturday in Nov is opener. Different parts of the state have different length of rifle season. The longer rifle zones are typically 2 full weeks plus a couple days. Black powder opens usually the weekend after rifle is all closed up. You can legally hunt with black powder during the rifle season. During rifle season there are no optics restrictions for black powder. But during black powder season you have to have a medical reason to legally hunt with a scope on a mzl loader.

MZL loader season usually runs till around Christmas, archery typically stays open a little beyond mzl loader.

Something clever here.

Stan,

Goalie nailed it. Blackpowder season starts the weekend after rifle/shotgun season ends. It's a nice time to be in the woods. It's nearly void of hunters. The problem is a lot of the deer are pretty skittish by then.

Hunting out in the winter wonderland is some of my favorite hunting though.

It does? I wasn't aware of this. I need to get going. Why didn't anyone tell me about the season you speak of?

Lanterns are filled, and the bacon and other tasty meats have been ordered.

Going to have Elk steaks and roast on the menu this year.

I have a couple pounds of thick cut bacon in the freezer, one pepper and one maple.

I have a lot to do before opener. I think I'll start chipping away at my to do list this week.

Getting so that my family loves deer opener more then christmas.

Been trying to get ready for the last couple weeks, stands all ready, gear washed and ready, guns sighted in, licenses paid for, landowner chatted with, one big buck scouted out smile

Even scattered about 3 out of 4 kids are really into opener. The 4th well she likes to sleep in and prefers to just walk and help on deer drives...

I am gonna start pre cooking stew, chili, and chicken and wild rice soup before opener so we just have to leave it in the crock pot smile

Lord I do love this time of the year...mmmmrppp snorrttt grrunnnttt...

Buschy,

I'm not sure when I'm coming up. I'm hoping to make if for black powder. Money is a bit tight right now, so we'll see.

well.. technically.
All you really need to have is presbyopia, which means you need reading glasses,or wear bifocals.
Ive had a scope permit for years.
