Fellow old guys, Do any of you belong to any organizations like AARP that are not liberal? AARP supports 0bamacare. I'm considering one as the extra insurance may prove beneficial at my age. What about either of these two? Generation America AMAC AMAC's Second Amendment stand: Our Stance on Key Issues Thanks!

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

Why does one need an organization like AARP?

AARP was basically founded to take advantage of older Americans. The lobby part of AARP is certainly a non-profit, but all of their insurance businesses know how to obtain maximum profits. First its health insurance, drug plans, then life insurance, burial insurance, long term nursing care, cancer insurance, & any profit making scheme that can be developed. I'm an old fart & it seemed impossible to stop the flow of mailings. Finally I wrapped a couple of bricks to some of their junk mail with a request to stop mailing me. It finally worked. When the wife approached retirement age the mailing began all over again. It only took one brick this time. There is nothing AARP offers that cannot be purchased else where as cheap or cheaper. If you need to join an organization & probably already belong to the NRA send a donation to the Wounded Warriors. A great organization that does a lot for our brave military.

Yup....same here But, why must there be an alternative to AARP?....do we really need to be collectively represented?

Yup....same here But, why must there be an alternative to AARP?....do we really need to be collectively represented? Normally group plans are cheaper. With Obamacare, though, all bets are off.

If you need to join an organization & probably already belong to the NRA send a donation to the Wounded Warriors. A great organization that does a lot for our brave military. Forget Wounded Warriors. They are anti-gun. Find a different organization.

First, Wounded Warriors is not anti-gun. They only made a statement that they wanted to stay seperate of those issues.
Second, if I remember correctly, AARP, and organizations like it, are best for older folks who did not already have good coverage for one reason or another, and now found it hard to get affordable coverage so late.
I believe most good companies have affordable and accessible plans.
