The 1894P was only made for two years, and makes a great Scout-type rifle with the XS LeverScout Mount.(see uppermost rifle, below)
They are
VERY handy, enabling the hunter to carry it one-handed while threading through heavy brush, etc - w/o the muzzle getting anywhere near the ground.
The porting isn't an issue when zeroing/practicing, since earmuffs are a must at most ranges.
I never noticed any difference when shooting @ game, since I usually focus/concentrate on the game target to the exclusion of everything else except the target's background (for hunter safety).
The 1894P's are hard to find today, in decent condition, and will usually bring about $700 in a NY Minute.
