Some 13 years ago or so my father had bladder cancer. It was treated and taken care of. Today I spoke to my brother, who is a nurse, and was told that my father reported to him that he had a gross amount of blood in his urine. He also said he has had blood in his urine for some time and has had increasing lower abdominal pain since last spring.
Dad is 84 years old and in full control of his faculties. He lives alone and has done so since my mother died in �94. He does have Parkinson�s Disease and a bad heart, Low ejection fraction, both pace maker and defibrillator. He is going to make an appointment with the doctor Monday.
Dad has stated that if he does have cancer he will not fight it. All he will accept is comfort care. I have always believed that someone has that right, I can�t change that belief now.
Right now I pray that this is not cancer. But what would I pray if it is? To take my father swiftly and easily? I don�t know. I am more worried about seeing him suffer than I am about death, as is the rest of the family. We saw my mom suffer from cancer for a long time before she died. We don�t want him to go through that.
You know when your parents are that old that they can be taken at any time. You know the phone could ring and you be told you need to come now, or they have passed. All that I can live with, suffering I cannot.

My prayers are out for you and your family. Cancer took my father at 82 almost two years ago. I know how ya feel.
