I'll be there this weekend (Thurs PM - Sun AM). There will be little free time. What "gotta see"s should I consider, not having been there before?

I hope you see the fact that J's nestled deep inside the mountains. IOW the sun would be nice....don't think I saw it before my third trip there however, and NOAA isn't giving up much hope for your stint.

The rain ain't no thang. I have gotten used to it, the way it's been raining here.

The majority of my time will be spent in the Diamond Aquatic Park. Might have to make an evening trip to the Red Dog with my bride.

Seems like the Red Dog changes location every year or two, but it does have an appropriately "sourdough" decor.

The Red Dog has long been gone now. The tourist trap Red Dog isn't worth your time. Alaskan Brew Company if you like Beer. If you want a good hike the Spaulding Trail out in Auke Bay would be a good hike, or out at the Mendenhall glacier is the Nugget trail. Both have some excellent views if that is something that intrest you. The Hanger has some good eats.

Juneau is generally shifting out of tourist mode but is not yet in legislative mode so Red Dog is a good stop. There are a lot of good eateries. The State Museum is nice. Check out Rayco Guns near the airport.
Rental cars are a bit pricey here but the Shrine of St. Theresa is worth the trip out the road: http://www.shrineofsainttherese.org/

Every Friday at Noon there is a free theatre organ concert in the State Office Building (SOB) www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDyyAV16k6A‎ Not a terrible place to take lunch and just a block from the State Museum.

The weather is supposed to be reasonably nice this weekend with a little fresh snow. Bring rainwear. It is hard to trust forecasts in Juneau though. Weather permitting, we hope to fly over to Gustavus and pick up an airplane.

What is bringing you to Juneau?

Hiking is doubtful. I'll be heavily chlorinated during the day - long days. May be too tired to do much beyond finding a good place to eat and enjoying a brew.

I'd go have a beer with you, but I take off for the annual "rutfest" deer hunt on Thursday. We've had three nice weekends in a row!!! In October??? WTF?

Used to swim back in the day. Held the 11-12 boys 200 IM state record for 20 years.

Probably wouldn't see the sun even if it happens to unobscured.
Any local hop-head brews there?

I know AK brewing is there, but any others?

Was in Juneau during May 2012 for a number of days.

The restaurant inside the Travelodge had some serious Mexican food...............including chicken burrito with beans and rice on the side. Odd location for great, terrific, mexican food. Evidently...........they had a couple SUPERB southwest chefs there............it was TERRIFIC!

Sadly, no other breweries in J, other than Alaska Brewing. You may get lucky and they'll have one of their small batch series going on in the tasting room. If they have Hopothermia.....it's awesome!

The ginger halibut at the Canton House is pretty damn good, as is the Thai place in Auke Bay, if they're open. Their spring rolls are excellent.

El Sombrero downtown for Mex food. Mi Casa? No mas!

Canton House (across from Mickey D's) for chinese. Good sushi.

Donna's (airport) for breakfast

Jovanny's (airport) for Italian/American

Chan's Thai Kitchen is okay too.

Appreciate the reco's fellas. I like halibut, but not a fan of ginger (the spice wink )

I'll write down the restaurants.
