Anyone want to admit to observing any superstitions when elk hunting?

Yeah. I finally put on my lucky elk hunting shirt. It didn't work.

I strictly adhere to some homemade 'old injun' tales. They seem to work when I want them to....

I always take Jalepeno and Chedder Elk sticks on my hunts. They give me an incentive to hunt harder to get some more.

I had a 'lucky' hat tradition, but I forgot it at camp and was still successful so I guess I broke that superstition.

There was one thing that worked many times when i was really desperate for a kill before a trip ended, but speaking it would kill the Mojo.

Now on a fishing trip, the longer you go without shaving, the more fish you will catch (if you can fish worth a crap). wink

I have this old camo parka that I've been wearing for nearly 20 years. If you look at photos of my successes over the years, I'm wearing it in most of them.
Of course there are those naysayers who say that since I wear it when the weather turns cold and snowy and that's when the elk bunch up and move down, the weather is the reason. Fools.

Not exactly a superstition, but if I don't go out one morning and shoot one last cold barrel shot right before leaving for elk camp, I never feel very confident.

Actually, it's uninsulated. It's heavy waterproof fleece with a thin liner. However, it can be worn over about anything and the hood is excellent. I often wear it over a heavy wool shirt and down vest. In real cold weather I put it over a light ripstop nylon insulated jacket and I'm good to well be low 0.

If I forget something important (knife, headlamp, cord, saw) then I will kill an elk that day.

I have no superstitions.

Except my lucky socks, peanut butter and honey sammiches, and of course barking at the moon 3 times.

I, for a long time grew out my beard for 3 months before hunting. It worked well when I did it.

Also, I carry the ivory teeth from my first bull and big game animal in my backpack.
