I miss David posting. Other than Rick and Mike he's probably had as much influence as anyone on my knife making. He's just a hell of a nice fella too.

I only own these two but I like them both quite a bit! David is easily one of my favorite makers, no doubt I will own more. Top: Model 22 in black micarta and D2 - 4.5" blade Bottom: Slightly modified model 69 with natural linen micarta, red liners, cpm 154. 4.25" blade
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

2MG - what model is this one? I need that but with orange scales I think.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Passport, pretty sure that's his model #69. I think I have that some knife only with red G-10 scales - its a darn fine knife IMHO.

I think INTHEMTNS is right, it's a Model 45. David had a special piece of splalted maple that had lots of character and lighter color changes in it, and these scales were some that were made from it.

Those jigged and fluted bone scales that he puts on some of his knives, like the skinner pictured here, are some of the best looking scales that I've seen. And I really like that thick looking shiny finish that he puts on em'. The lines on his skinners are really pleasing to my eye...!

Antlers, I agree. His skinners are great looking, great working knives, and the jigged bone scales are just that extra special touch. I must say though, the two you posted above are beauties also. That red handled skinner has me ready to pick up the phone to give David a call. That one is just amazing.

I know my picture is not good, but here are a couple of the Winston's I have and use...I think the Elk is a model 42 and the tan G-10 is a model 37...they both have black liners...the 42 is D2 and the 37 is S30V.. [/URL]

INTHEMNTS- What material are the scales on your 69 with mosaics plz? The 2nd one. Not the antler, the wood scales. While you're at it, what's the last one pictured also? I looked at Dave's site. The homepage shows 5-7 of the same knife in various scales, but I can not find a knife that matches showing a Model number.

The brown one is a maple burl I believe I purchased it a couple years ago and the next is dyed box elder burl #70 and the red G-10 one is a model #43, I know he has the #69 advertised on his page but you will have to ask him for the #70 it is a really nice pattern little smaller then the #69 handle, hopefully that answers your question.

Yep. He calls it a bone-breaker notch. Break the bone, then go through the break instead of using the cutting edge to go through the bone.

Now that's a useful idea for a notch, unlike a gut hook. Sweet knife.

Yeah I bird hunt quite a bit (dove & quail) just don't think that would suit me. It's obviously creative. Not slamming the Man's work at all. Just don't care for that design.

Now that's a useful idea for a notch, unlike a gut hook. That notch is actually pretty useful on squirrels. I can see that.
When it comes to knives and guns, what does NEED have to do with it?

We'll I could see how the Winston could work. But I am lost on that one. But you know there had to be a market or these guys would not have wasted their time. I guess.
The quality of the work looks pretty dang good.

This maker actually calls it a squirrel knife. You put the squirrel's leg in the notch, break the bone, then cut through the break instead of using the cutting edge to go through the bone.

Might be handy for cutting fishing line;) but it's not for me.
It is well executed and a nice knife though. To each his own.

That is actually really cool. I've been skinning tree rats for over 50 years and never gave anything like that a thought. I guess I just don't have a creative mind

The last eleven of a 50 knife order. Am very glad to finally be done. Delivering these puppies tomorrow. Then I can come home and get back to work. Bad enough to have to lean new stuff at my age but to learn it and then have to learn it again sucks

Thanks. I have been most of the day getting a couple of pictures and then figuring how to get them posted. My photo host and the Campfire keep logging me off. Don't know if it is them or my computer. These knives are for the "Catch A Dream Foundation". A nice group of people that are doing good things for kids. If anyone is interested you can see what they are doing here: www.catchadream.orgTheir mission is to provide hunting and fishing trips for children who have life threatening illness. A once in a lifetime for a chance to get out and enjoy something for a few days besides something connected to a hospital. I am glad to have been given a chance to be affiliated with this group. Not here to raise funds but they can use donations, no matter how small.

Not trying to bump this post. Just working on this computer trying to get where I can post with it. Having a very hard time. No problem! I think a reasonable amount of bumping is fine, and nobody would think you are overdoing it by a long shot! However, some of the guys selling stuff that they bump every hour can get a bit irritating... Well, unless they are slashing the price every hour perhaps... John

mail man brought me another sweet Winston today. From Mr. David the combination of yellow and black on the knife is unreal. Fit and fitness is excellent. The crossdraw sheath is top notch and will be a real handy way to carry.

Erwin Roach told me one time that David Winston had forgotten more about makin' knives than he (Erwin), Gene Ingram, Charles May, and Al Alexander all knew about makin' knives collectively...! David's a good dude, and a true craftsman.

Dude, you have a great bunch of Winston's. All of those that you posted are really nice. He really does jigged and beaded G-10 well...those bright colored knives you posted are good examples. I love the bird's head grips on the knives above, and that skinner has some beautiful lines. Thanks for postin' all the good pics.

You just can't beat a Winston knife with elk handles. Perfect "trifecta".

Those sure look good man...! His weathered elk scales are really attractive. Love the blade profiles on his skinners, and the bird's head grips on those bottom two look exceptionally sweet.

I really like the black and orange knife in the top pic buster, what model is that? Its a model 61 Buster, is that a shortened blade version of the 61? with my eyes, doesnt look 4 1/4" long. but I've been wrong many times I"m not sure if it's shortened. I did't ask David to shorten it or do anything special to it

David, what's the difference between the 43 and 61? And did you start making the 61 with a shorter blade?

I really love that orange G10 model 45 David. You might have to send that one my way.

I pulled the trigger on the orange 45, I couldn't take it anymore! Good score. He makes some great knives. Not only does he make great knives, his customer service is top notch. He aint arrogant or egotistical and treats you the same whether its 1 knife or 15. Keep up the good work David.

I have liked my orange knives in the past just for that reason. Not sure how many times I have struggled to find a knife I set down while field dressing. All my non-orange knives get orange lanyards.

The 43 has a slightly longer and wider blade with a little more belly. The handle is also a bit bigger on the 43 and more square at the end. It was a tough choice between the two.
