Mark Penrod finished up his work on my new Indiana legal deer killer. There will be a McM stock in the future as the plywood factory stock just flat out sucks. .....second from left...... Win 70 WSSM action, Lilja 1-12 twist #5 at 22", Timney trigger and a Leupold VX-6 2-12X42 sitting in Talleys. Can't locate the right powder for this (H4895) locally so I'm stuck with Varget which should yield ~2700fps with the 180gr TTSX. CR

Sweet!!
:-)
Only the dinks in IN can come up with such assinine rules.
I can say this cause I was hatched there and grew to age 12 before moving.
Your bullet at 2700 fps is sooo much different than a .30-06 or .270 at 2800-3000 fps

Nice, I really love my 358 wssm It's a deer killer for sure. I've killed 4 bucks, 3 doe and loaned it to a pard who shot a small buck with it....all one shot kills. I'm using the 225 accubonds.

Tom, you built yours on a 700, right?
We're looking at trying a Model 70 or 700 WSM action and bumping the shoulder back on WSM brass to meet the newer 1.800" brass length regulation.

hangunnr,
If you want to try a lighter stock, I have a B&C coyote light WSSM stock with the vented forearm for sale. A #5 contour will fit with a little room to spare. Shoot me a PM if you want to try it.

hangunnr,
You can also use Benchmark or TAC with very good results.

What rule requires such a bizarre wildcat?

For use in a rifle in Indiana the minimum bullet diameter is .357 and the maximim case length is 1.8"
Their original intentions were to allow "pistol" calibers in rifles. They however included the verbage (I'm paraphrasing) that as long as you meet the minimum bullet diameter and stay under the max case length that a wildcat chambering would also be legal. There are many different custom chamberings out there that adhere to the rules. I chose this one because it's one of the fastest and would require no special alteration of the base rifle to get it to feed properly.

It is crazy but a mans got to do what he can to use something better than a shotgun in this crazy state. Don't know how long away or anything but I keep hearing that Indiana will soon be going to rifles anyway.......I always thought it a rumor but I have asked a few DNR officers recently and they have confirmed that it is in the process. One can only hope.

I've heard bits and pieces of the same talk but was told that only specific zones would be allowed. I do not know what zones they're referring to though. CR

Pretty neat solution. That's using the old noggin to get around a stupid rule!

I believe there is a guy offering prefit Savage barrels. Can't think of his name or user name at this time.
Found the company offering the Savage barrels. It's BFG Designs. Username here on the forum is fireball168.

I think the guy in Bloomfield is doing that too. The BFG guy also was selling Encore barrels.

Well done! I like it! I need to scrape up the money for one very badly, but I'll probably go with the 1.8" version just because.

I'd go with the 1.8 version too if I was starting from scratch.
