Mounts might be iffy. They're tight, but in keeping with the vintage of the gun, I have a Marbles Game Getter low see throughs. They're so low that you really don't see the target very well. Grew up in the UP near Gladstone and this is sort of a nostalgia thing. They've been on there for at least a decade.
The other variable with these guns is the front sling swivel. It screws through the one piece stock into a lug welded on the bottom of the barrel. Some guys say crank it down some say leave it a bit loose with some blue Loc-Tite. ???
I clean it after each season with Butches, brass brush, patch until clean, and then one oiled patch. To sight in, I shoot a fouling shot, then get down to business. When I have my zero, which has never been better than 1.5", I run a dry patch and it's ready to hunt.
I'm going to try the 165 Fusions. Technique is the same since I used to shoot competition in high school (literally in the basement of the school :)) so I think I'm good there. I have my 300WM A-bolt if it doesn't work out, but I kinda wanted to take the old girl out, she was getting lonely in the cabinet when her friends got to play every year.
If the mount is tight I doubt that its the problem. I'd be inclined to go with a swellen stock adding add'l pressure to the barrel.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Except for bears. Bears kill you.
Dave, you are taking 11 guns to camp? man, i will NEVER get a deer cuz I am only taking 1. I knew dem deers were sneaky bastiges, but I didnt know you could fool'em with different shootin' irons.
This will be my last post until next week. Heading up to my uncles farm (which is our "camp") to drop off ATVs, stock in some wood, lay a thin layer of BS and drive the roads looking for Mr MackDaddy.
Stupid Vikings. They screw up and win. Stupid Washington, they didnt win. I think you could say the 2 victories over Wash in the last few years have set this franchise back many years (the first victory cost them Robert Griffin III).
Good luck all you MN hunters.
What you do today is important, you are trading a day in the rest of your life for it.
Sitting in the tent and it is snowing. The stands are up and the hunting clothes are layed out for morning. We are supposed to get four inches of snow, all the better to see the deer. Good luck to all.
grey day, never saw or heard a thing.didnt help the wind is blowing 15-20,with huge flakes falling horizontal. had a smaller tree almost fall on me in my stand, gave up early.

nice buck! that is one old deer! I'm hoping to get one like that really soon! I decided to start a jawbone collection with different age classes of deer on it, over 5 they get hard to find! congrats on an awesome buck!
Beware of any old man in a profession where one usually dies young.
We have more deer sign than we have had for several years. I have been seeing deer and Nate has seen some too. I enjoyed watching a doe and fawn at very close range for about 15 minutes yesterday at 4:30.
