http://legiscan.com/MS/text/HB1139/id/792214anyone following this? Does not make me any diff, happy to hunt with my 1885/375 or 9.3 Encore during primitive, but I do like to be aware of the laws... Section 5 is what I'm looking at. Bottom of the page, looks like this doesn't go into effect until next season?

jeff, that's what my understanding has been. Will still be using a .45/70. Thinking about buying a new Kentucky rifle anyway..

ya'll are correct, my understanding is that the new law will not be in effect this fall. so we'll still have the single shot .35 whelen a/k/a "primitive" season like in 2012.

FWIW, the primitive season rules had reached the point of absurdity, I'm not sorry to see them go. The single shot rules are still going to apply on public lands, though, which just further confuses the issue.

FWIW, the primitive season rules had reached the point of absurdity Based on the performance of some 45-70's I'm familiar with, there is nothing that would suggest they are a primitive weapon. Nothing more advanced than front stuffers with black powder, iron sights, round balls, and exposed cap or flint ignition.

Note that some parts of Mississippi have been having an "early primitive weapons season" for antlerless deer on private property. This will occur for the third year in my neck of the woods. The new law will have no effect on these early seasons if they continue. The new law only applies to the late primitive weapons season.

Primitve weapons is kind of a joke when your hunting with a 350 rem mag lol. However i wished they would have never opened that pandoras box. We went from cap and ball to inlines with scopes and now it just an extension of rifle season. This is what happens when the legislature gets to set hunting regs.

Yep it is nuts. I wish we would have a 4 week long "true" primitive weapons season from Dec. 15 to mid January.
