99C in 284 win, my go to rifle. Restocked with new savage wood (life is too short to hunt with an ugly rifle). Just hated the pressed checkered wood!

Wow, that's a shooter! With factory ammo? Is that a fluke or is it consistently that accurate? No excuses for you at the end of season by the way.

Factory ammo. I couldn't get this thing to shoot worth a darn with the factory wood, so I changed the wood. Then I could get it to repeat 2 shots and the 3rd would be a flier. So then I put a little rubber o-ring on the forestock screw between the wood and barrel and bingo! Shoots like a house on fire. I can put an entire box of ammo through it now with repeatable results. And yes I have no excuses!

What size O-ring. Would you mind taking a pic of it installed on the stud screw?

Already went out with the 99F in 358. Had a cow elk tag. One shot, one elk.

Sure wish I could take my 1899/99's out to (deer)hunt.. frown

Sure hurts owning these guys and not being able to hunt with them. Illinois does not allow centerfire rifle of any kind on deer. I hunt whitetail with pistol, Ruger Super Redhawk.

Varmints are about the only thing really applicable for centerfire rifle in Illinois.

sure enjoyed reading thru this thread!

Sounds like you and a few brothers need to march those 99's right up the state capitol.
