I have a vari-x IIc 4-12x40 ao on my 270 Weatherby Magnum and I really want target turrets now that I'm getting into some long range shooting. I've done some searching but limited results on recent info. Am I right in my understanding that Leopold won't put them in anything but the vx-I and newer? if so do I have any other reasonable options for this scope?

I believe Leupold will install target turrets on your scope but call them and ask. That said, I didn't like the target turrets Leupold puts on scopes I had like that as they project too far and have a cover you have to screw on over them to protect them. If you wish to have target turrets, I would recommend a scope that already came with them such as the Leupold Mark 4.

I'd like to avoid buying a new scope if I can. I was just hoping that maybe I could have them installed on this one to save me some money because I don't shoot enough to justify spending a great deal of cash. Most of my hunting and shooting is done with my 308 and under 250 yards. I'm just getting into long range shooting on the side. If I really enjoy it then I may invest more money later on down the road.

this is a plain 'ol Vari-X (not c), and M1, not target elevation turret, but...

I've had a couple done cant remember what it cost but they will do it !

Toad did you have those installed recently? And how do you like them?

I just got my vx-3 4.5x14 done. It was $90.00 per turret. This was a cds moa turret.

I know they'll do it on the vx models. But I have heard that they won't work on the vari-x models. I only want elevation for now.

I see. I've emailed Leupold but haven't gotten a reply yet. I just can't verify if they will still work on the vari-x models or not.

They did as of Jan of '13 as I sent in a half-dozen of the exact scope you're contemplating for M-1 elevation turrets.
