That thing is a beast. Deerantisaurus rex!
It looks like the sun will shine bright today. Nothing like watching the sunrise from a deer stand. It's windy though, and it's crunchy noisy in the woods. Hard to sneak up on anything.
The glow of the sun is just crowning above the spruce and cedar tops behind me and casting its light out ahead of me. The wind is still high, treetop level and it's blowing pretty good. It can't really be felt at ground level too much yet, but as the sun goes up, the breeze will reach lower. Chilling my neck.
Gonna be one of those days.
Something clever here.

Windier than heck over here too, Dave. Sucks having windy conditions for the opener, I hate it for you.
Thanks for the visual of the sun rising at your back. My main stand is situated facing West too, and I always enjoy watching the first rays of sun touch the tops of the trees across the meadow from me and then gradually creep downward, casting their yellow light on the trunks before finally reaching the ground where it burns off the night's frost.
I've tried to get pics of it, but none ever seem to do it justice.
Good luck to you and the rest of the Chickenbuckers out there.

Congrats guys!
Coop that is big 'ol bruiser! Good Job!
Yesterday evening, I had decent buck come hauling azz by me while I sat in a little ground blind I built. I took a quick shot and another when he stopped behind some trees. The 12 ga slug hit a branch and all I got was a pile of hair. Had does and fawns within 10 yards last night. Nothing today so far except some far away does.

At least your seeing deer Rooster.
Windy here Saturday and today. Major weather change coming tonight. Temps dropping into the 20's and snow. 1" to 3" predicted. Highs Monday/Tuesday only in the 20's. Warming back up Wednesday.
Worked on the snoblower this AM and fired it up.
Sleeping bag is outside airing out.

Congrats Coop and Goalie. Good job, guys! A little snow at sunrise for us yesterday, but never saw a deer. Windy, spit rain or ice crystals about half the time. Very little shooting. The other group that hunts by us got two and missed two. One of our guys hit a spike yesterday morning, but didn't get it. The stinking rain was coming down, which washed away any blood, and the snow was gone by then. A tough pill to swallow.

Heading out tomorrow to check out a farm in Lakeville I got permission to hunt. Another group hunts it on the opener, but not thereafter. Might end up being a ML spot. Planning on taking T-Zone over there for ML season. Hunting his spots next weekend up in Duluth. Hope to make at least one or two day trips middle of this week too. 'Can't get a deer sitting on my butt watching the TV. As a last resort, the place we stay for the opener would like us to shoot a couple deer there, as they've got "neighborhood" deer that eat everything they try to grow. The problem is, it's going to be really tough shooting there from a safety standpoint. Too many buildings and roads around. It wouldn't be really hunting-more eradication than anything else. Might go back up with the ML and see if I can help them out a bit. Meat's meat when it comes right down to it, and they've asked us several times. I just don't want to have an errant shot go somewhere I don't want it to, or for a deer to go die on the neighbor's front porch.

Well done Goalie and Coop! Coop I assume it's a no-brainer that's going up on the wall.
Rooster, good on you too! You're a gamer coming off that scare last week and hitting it hard for the opener.

yea he's at the taxidermist. She's got another one of mine she's finishing up for the wisconsin deer turkey expo this year. she might try and get that one done to take with 2. She's ordering a custom form for him cause the mackenzie forms dont have a neck/head combo that does him justice. his head was 15" from nose to ears. looked like a yearling steer

Came in for lunch on day 3. No deer sighted but they're around. This wind is nasty and I think has them laying tight.
I did help a lost guy on Saturday morning. He was more than happy to see me. I'm over in my buddies camp in Cotton. They got a 7pt opening day but nothing since.

Rooster, good on you too! You're a gamer coming off that scare last week and hitting it hard for the opener. Well I'm either a gamer or an idiot or both! Ended up in the ER last night with my leg all swelled up again and some pain in my chest. They did all the tests and basically told me to rest and not over do it. Got out of going to the Coumadin clinic today though because they checked my INR levels last night. Good luck to those still out hunting! I'll be back out next weekend but will probably drive just a little tiny bit closer to my spots instead of hiking to them. Cooper - I shot a buck back in '07 that the taxi needed to order a special form for as well. It looked like a steer hanging in the garage. It's amazing how big those deer will get when they make it to adulthood!

Take it easy, Rooster. Don't need you back in the hospital.
Just came back from lunch at Chili's. Free to vets. Had a Pearl Harbor Surveyor in attendance.
