Girl friend was just going through some of her grandmothers photos. This one came up, guessing her grandfather was behind the camera.

Photo labeled (about a 1/2 hour North of Minneapolis) and the Fat man shot the deer.

[Linked Image]

Guessing it was shortly after WWII, her grandfather was in the Navy and fought in the Pacific. Met his wife in New Zealand and she later came back to MN with him.

Classic photo.

Suggest posting in the Savage Collectors forum and see what they have to say about the 99.

You might want to shoot this off to Grogel Deluxe. He's always interested in anything Savage.

Diggin' the old Remington auto too.

Neat photo. One with wool plaid checked outfit (red/black?), two pipe smokers, felt boots and various versions of Stormy Kromer hats. Looks like the metal tag clipped and hanging from the right rear leg near the tarsal gland.
The guy on the left looks to have a rear tang sight maybe from a Model 70? He's got the bolt open too.
The buck is field dressed and pretty stiff.
The guy on the far right has a 35 Remington, I'd say. A Savage and a couple of Winchesters round out the group.
Looks like a wet snow just passed through judging by it still clinging to the brush.
A great vintage photo to archive!

Don't be so quick there-that Model 8 or 81 could easily be a .300 Savage......

Hey Y'All:
.
. I just magnified that pic 2 times and 2nd gent in from left has a clip fed rifle, maybe a SVG. 40/45? Looks like the clip is out of his rifle.
.
. That Rem. semi looks like an 8. If so,.300S was an 81.
.
. Still a nice old photo.

Deer ran himself skinny looking for just one doe back then.
