My plan for this weekend is to skin, quarter, and maybe debone any deer either where it dies or near the truck. We will be hunting on my cousin's farm, where there is little cell service to telecheck.

My cousin thinks it might be illegal to cut up the deer in the field.

The online version of the deer regs don't explicitly say yes or no, but has this.
"Properly checked deer may be possessed by anyone if labeled with the takers full name, address, date taken and Telecheck confirmation number. The Telecheck confirmation number must remain attached to the carcass until a processor begins the act of processing the meat for packaging."

Any thoughts?

Some states require proof of sex left attatched to part of the carcass. If you just separate one rear quarter with the hide on and leave the external genitalia attatched that should satisfy the requirement.

In GA, DNR wants gutted, intact bears brought to the checking station. I made a DNR Ranger admit that was NOT a law, just what they prefer for data collection, for their convienience. YMMV.

You have to Telecheck to get a confirmation number first then you can go ahead and quarter him up.
