If you like heavy, bulky binos that are made in China thats a deal. There are a lot of other binos with ED glass for less money that dont weigh as much

If you like heavy, bulky binos that are made in China thats a deal. There are a lot of other binos with ED glass for less money that dont weigh as much Nothing better optically for the money. The above comments are typical from somebody who is looking for negatives without using one enough to form a coherent opinion about the binocular. They are 28 oz, hardly the biggest 42 mm size binocular, about average for the class. Yes they are big, but well balanced. This is a US design and is made for Leupold in China by another US company who owns the factory in China. So Leupold did not simply pick up a Chinese optics catalog, point to page 15 and say..."this looks pretty neat we'll take 5,000". Every one is put through more than two dozen QC checks before Leupold boxes and ships the glass. They are built like the proverbial tank. The biggest potential negative is the size of the ocular lenses. They are quite large in diameter, something not completely solvable if you are trying for wide and flat fields of view with sharp to the edge performance. If you can deal with that, the optics are terrific.

I was going over binoculars with a rep from Eagleoptics last week and this bino was brought up. He told me he could not recommend them to anyone. I know that is his opinion.

What do you think of the Bresser Montana? Forgive my skepticism. Your sole determiner of optics suitability seems to be based only on whether or not you think it is or is not Chinese. I have a hard time thinking you have even packed one from the counter to outside the store. I have been wrong before. I have no opinion on the Bresser Montana as I have not seen one.

The ocular lenses flat out SUCK....Other than that, they are a nice bino for the money. Good luck.

I have the 10X42 Leupold McKinnleys, Personally I think they are great. I bought them from Doug at Camera Land $619. love the eye relief. They are heavy but I knew this going in, since I hunt from a sitting position and don't have to walk miles, they are fine for me.

Was glad someone asked about these. So if not these- what then? Meopta Meopro's maybe ? Got to admit not being familiar with the Bressers. I haven't bought roofs in a while after the last $350 pair convinced me to go porro for a better view at 1/3rd the cost. It wasn't THAT long ago. Things changes in the last five years?

Not sure if Meopta makes the Leupold McKinleys, they are similar but not exactly alike

Thanks- I have used both Meopta and Leupold scopes and know they are separate entities.
I bought some Leupold Pinnacles everyone raved about and soon grew tried of them. Finicky and not overly bright but nice to carry. I replaced them with heavy bulky Bushnell Legend porros and find them better in every way except size. So have VERY recent roofs improved enough to compete in view to porros costing say half as much? Hope this doesn't insut someone. The 7x36 Zen Ray did catch my eye. I always the 7x35 was THE perfect all around size for hunting. don't see them available in ED3 though. I don't know the difference between ED2 and Ed3.
I have a 6.5x32et of porros too and do think something between it and the 8x42 Legends could maybe replace both.
