I have a 35 whelen Ruger77 MKII I'm putting in a new McSwirly. The MacMillan inleting seems about perfect and the stock is beautiful with a perfect centered barrel channel fit - just lightly floated.

The problem is I can't seem to adjust or move the three action screws so that the floorplate completely latches. I've trying multiple times with different sequences and torgues and even shims. I get it close but the latch never fully closes.

Any advice on the right approach here to tighening the screws/shims or whatever? I think it's a problem because of the segmented bottom metal and the angled recoil screw.

If any one has any tips I'm all ears.

I haven't given up trying yet but it sure is a pain.

It's SUCH a nice stock - shame to not get it 100% right.

Here's a pic of it.

Either the triggerguard is sitting in the stock just a tad to much, or the front of the floor plate is or the stock is just a hair proud where the floorplate is.

Hard saying not seeing it first hand. They can had have been a PIA for me in the past. How is it with just the triggerguard/floorplate without the action in the stock?

Sometimes it takes a little bedding forward/aft and I've also had to do a little bit of sanding.

I to had a little trouble getting all the stars to line up on my Ruger but I can't remember what I did to get it to all fall in place.

So far I've only tried manipulating the screw tighening order and tensions and adding/subtracting various thickness shims under the front and rear guard screws

Guess I'll have to pull it back out of the stock to analyse the floor plate catch situation. However all worked fine in factory syn stock.

I'm just about to GFM, so keep my advice in check.

Sell the ruger, get something with panache.

Blasphemy! The MKII is skookum, more so in a zytel stock

You gotta figure where it's hitting. Doesn't matter a bit how it worked in the factory stock, that isn't the stock we are discussing.

I had a little trouble with my MK II 77 at first,turned out to be my fault.

The notch in the magazine where the floor plate hinge fits wasn't lined up.
