Tom - it can be, you need a PP just to have a chance at drawing. this year it was about a %70 chance of drawing if you had one point.

Ok, good deal. I have one point for West River and one for Black Hills then.
So odds are pretty good I'll draw on or the other I hope?

you have a good chance. the BH you might draw if you put in for whitetails only. if you put in for an ANY deer, you might have to wait a few years. there are chances at mulies with the WR tag you're going for too.

I'll put in for whities in the BH's then. That's what I really want this first time around anyway. I want to hunt some different country, take some great pictures, and maybe shoot a buck. Preferably one like Kendra got. I don't apply again til June right?

ND,
I sent you an email today as well. It looks like Big D and I won't be making the trip up next weekend. My work schedule has me getting back late friday and it looks as though the temps are going to drop into the basement anyway. Like -12* for a high. Maybe the following weekend we can see what it looks like or just reserve a fishing weekend?

Yeah I understand. I told Nate that "team big" wont be making it... He scowled a bit and said something about "wussies", then he ran outside naked and made a snow angel out in the yard. Kids these days... go figger.

Just got caught up on everything.
Dave great read on the last weekend.
Muffy, congratulations on taking the deer off Dusty's (Now your) stand. I know Dusty's proud of you.
Happy belated birthday, Weezy. Can not believe your 20 already.
We had a good year. Ended up with 3 bucks. A 4, 7 and 9 pointer.
Our youngest hunter (11) got his first deer, the 7 pointer. Let me tell you he was one excited boy.
My buddy Rick got the other 2. Me, I saw 3 does and passed on them. I share the venison with Rick and we already had 2 deer.
Opener was cold and windy. Six above on the opener and minus 6 the next day. Sure glad I had my box blind to stop the wind.

I know. Nate was the first person I thought of when we made the decision. Sorry Runs with Scissors. We WILL make a trip to spend a weekend soon!

We'll be ice fishing before you know it.
I'm seriously thinking about just skipping muzzle loader altogether this year.

For some reason this year I feel like my hunting was cut short. Like I need more. I'm not sure why. I went at least as much as I usually do? I'm not sure what it is. Maybe because I didn't get to spend very much time in the woods before hunting season? Maybe becasue in the past I've hunted MN and WI? Like I said, just can't put a finger on it.
April and I are going to head up north of Duluth on the last weekend of BP season. We're going to sit a morning and do a little woods work and scouting. There is a ladder stand I'm going to pull down that is in an area that looks good, but didn't have much deer sign in it. So I guess scouting is sometimes for where not to find deer as well.
There are 6 stands that two of us maintain, and mostly I end up doing it. I'm going to just maintain a few of them, the best ones and scout a lot more on the clear cut where the beaver pond stand is. The beaver pond is cool but VERY hard to get to. Almost making it unhuntable because of the racket getting to the stand. Possible though.

We got a big 'ol storm headin our way. Warning starts at 3:00 pm today and goes until 6:00 am Thursday. And then the temps are supposed to dip to -20* which probably means -30* where Dave lives.

Happy belated birthday, Weezy. Can not believe your 20 already. This CAN'T be so! I still fee like a Newbie to the Campfire and I can remember her tooling around with pops in the garage building her mustang... Geez Bill, way to make a lad feel old... Next thing I know, somebody will be telling me that Runs-with-scissors is voting... 20 years old... Brace yourself Dave, within the next 10 years, it's likely you'll be walking her down the aisle and then we'll be calling you grandpa! Time flies.... Congrats on the bday wheezy. Hang in there dad.
