16 years ago My friend(in the photo) and I started deer hunting. We asked my Grampa to teach us. Gramp hadn't hunted for 13 years but came out of retirement to help us. One of our first walks in the woods near his place he showed us this tree he had sat in to hunt. To climb into the tree he cut down a Cedar tree and trimmed the branches into a ladder.

It is one of the landmarks we use and the ladder gramp cut nearly 30 years ago is still there.

Now that's some ninja level deer "stand" stuff right there.

Very cool.

These hardwood ridges have been good to me. Wind gets funky and swirly so I hunt high in a climber. It pays off sometimes...

I've taken a good buck or two near the base of that ridge over the years.

Gents, I have really enjoyed this thread; it's been one of the best ever IMO. Thanks so much for posting these beautiful and varied scenes.

I am leaving for the NE Sandhills this morning to chase whitey or perhaps a big mule deer as both are in our area. I'll do my best to contribute here when I return.

The Nebraska Sandhills. Remember the song, "Lonely" by Bobby Vinton? Ok, so most of you won't but, that's the Sandhills.

you know the phrase, "few and far between?" That pertains to trees in the Sandhills.

Old New England farm land that has long since been reclaimed by nature. Old cellar holes and stone walls throughout. Now in puplic land trust.
