'68 I bought a couple of weeks ago. Has a 283 in it trying to figure out the best way to replace with about a 300+ HP SB chevy. 300 isn't that hard from a correctly built 283. mathman is correct and, once again, really nice truck. Putting any SBC in there should not be much trouble. But, does that one have a column 3 speed - or maybe Powerglide (hope not)? If so, a 4 speed might be a good add.

Correct, an old Bud of mine has a spare 350 SB 4-bolt main block and an old set of worked 350 horse corvette iron heads, that would be an easy and affordable fix. Gunner

I've never seen a 4x4 Studebaker.
I like it, a lot.
Something clever here.

My buddy, Bill Fowler of Solo Speed Shop in Cali, here's his three Stude pickups. Both C-cabs are factory 4X4's. The 39 is just plain kool!

My 1988 Toyota 4Runner. Well north of 300K miles, and it keeps on trucking. Drove it down to Miami and back recently. 350 miles each way. Got 22 mpg, at a steady 75, and it ran like a top. This weekend, it will be down in the sand and mud in the Ocala NF, hunting and 4 wheeling. What a great old truck!

Seeing a hunting truck thread filled such great trucks but missing a Series Rover was irresistible bait to catch this longtime lurker.
I just had to register to post my little old truck to ensure that Rovers with their great hunting heritage were represented.

Those Studebakers have such a great and distinctive look and are so rare that they are seldom seen to admire.

wish I had a few pics of it, but there was a member from "down under" over on AR, that had posted pics of a Land Rover he has down in Western Australia.... had real rough looking mud tires on it... it was a 1955 Diesel Powered Land Rover, that his dad has bought and had it shipped to Oz back in 1955.... was still in the family and was still running, looked in pretty darn nice condition also.. Said original engine, it had never been rebuilt.. still could get it out and run it flat out... 53 mph... slow but definitely high on the cool factor..

It appears that I did something wrong in inserting that picture of mine.
That '55 Rover that cite is not the only one still in the same family from way back when. A guy in '56 that had been in the same family since new took that photo of mine that I half posted.

Sorry so long to respond. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I bought a plain GM 260 horse crate 350. I'm now trying to figure out the best and cost effective way to go with the heads. Vortec with the added expense of odd intake and rockers or more exspensive conventual edelbrock or dart heads. Probably a Comp 268 cam. the truck has factory air,ps,pb and 400 auto w/ 12 bolt. The glovebox has been changed so I don't know what is original. Also still has drum brakes, will change to front disk at some point.
