Has anyone tried the Barnes XPB bullets in their muzzleloaders? I've read of the regular Barnes MZ bullets being very hard to start down the barrel and thought maybe of trying the .451 pistol bullet in a Harvester Sabot. I normally use a Hornady .452 XBT but have been trying to shift away from lead bullets. I have a Lyman Deerslayer flintlock and a Traditions Pursuit both in 50 cal.

Hornady started a new line of .452 bullet called the monoflex for ML's your could try thats not lead: http://www.hornady.com/store/50-Cal-Sabot-Low-Drag-with-45-Cal-250-MFX-Bullet/

Not dissin Barnes, but I've had a lot better luck using the .452 Hornady over the .451 Barnes in my rifels. You also could check into the .458 bullet line as well. I've been to Barnes and tried different lines of bullets and they just didn't work for me, but they do make a fine bullet.

I tried the .429 XPB in a green Harvester Sabot but the bullet keyholed at 50 yards. They are much longer than the Hornady.430 XBT hollow points. I used a Lyman Deerstalker with a 1 in 48" twist. Maybe they will work in my Traditions in-line.
